I agree! There are no poor teachers the money they make starts in the upper 70's and just keeps going up.........let's not forget 9 months of work.
And the fact is "Are the students being passed along smarter then a 5th grader?"

the economy sucks, people are losing jobs everyday, our taxes keept going up but our pay scale stays the same, and these people, our educators, who get paid b y our tax dollars, can't understand or care about the burden they are putting on us. THey start at more than the average resident makes after a lifetime of work, and we are not even getting what we are paying for, Our education system is a failure. And the prima donnas say we are going on strike and so what if more of a burden is put on us taxpayers. I beleive in collective bargining, but it must be a two way street. Before a strike is considered, the teachers should look at whats going on around them. Besides, since they are not doing their job to start with why not hold them responsible and htell them to look for greener pastures elsewhere.

notice how none of you live in the leyden district. i can see why you wouldn't mind sitting back while east leyden is run into the ground. you get what you pay for. if leyden doesn't pay its teachers well, they will not have any good teachers there, and the kids and homeowners suffer. ps whoever thinks teachers work nine months out of the year is sadly uninformed.

The question is... for the amount of money Leyden teachers make, Are the students and districts continuously improving? Are their scores superior to other high paying districts? High Scores = High Salary

high scores does not equal high salaries. high salaries does not always mean high scores, but it does mean great teacher. if you can't comprehend the correlation there, then you haven't looked at the outcome of the lower paying schools. maybe you should do your homework.

Does anyone actually think our taxes are going down? They're not. So, basically it's going to be lose-lose. Our taxes are raised, and we're going to lose our great teachers.

Let's test these teachers every other year to keep them or not. Most of the teachers I know received there job by who they know not what they know.
If they are so concerned about students they would not upset the student or the school by striking.
A strike will have the school year go longer which will hurt the seniors trying to enter college;
but as usual it is all about me - the poor teacher.

Please check what the Administrators earn. Yes they work 12 months, but they don't have to put up with bratty kids, or jerky parents. None of they have been in a class room for at least the past 10 years. I'm a retired teacher & know first hand that Administrators are out of touch. The teachers don't have anything to do with your taxes...that's a politically doing. I also have had my taxes go up 20%, but the teachers aren't to blame.

I point more fingers at the parents of the jerky kids. Many parents are clueless to what their kids do or deny thier kid could ever do a bad think. Wake parents your kids lie to you & the teachers.

Please don't ask from help from the Mayor.... he wasn't the sharpest crayon in the box as a Leyden student.

not just in franklin pak but through out the country our education system is failing. when the student are not pssing the tests the answer is not to lower the standards so everyone looks good or as some teachers have admitted altering scores so the results look better than what they are. what we have is younger gerations of students who cannot do math, have no idea what history really is, and have a me first attitude and to hell with everyone else. for years education has been the sacred cow and money is just dumped into the system without and demands for something in return. THis has got to stop and some accountability for failure must be established so the probelm, not blame, can be recognized and adressed. In these hard times the only message this strike is sendeing to the students is its okay to be me first, don't worry anbout any responsibility, so what if your parents are out of work and may have their home foreclosed, i deserve this raise because im a educator! a strike does nothing to help anyone.

I went to Leyden. I was an average student but I learned very little while I was there. The only thing the school gives a damn about is teaching the kids how to pass an SAT. I probably learned more on my own free time, when I was researching things in the library.

How sincere could you be...why would you make such a mean statement about the Mayor! You make a good salary and will have a good pension, sounds like you are as childlike as those you teach! Grow up. Just state your facts as they relate to you instead of putting someone else down. If you don't like your salary go to Chicago and work. You've had it too good for too long! In these economic times what do you do.....you jump ship and strike. Shame on you. Not only are your hurting the children you teach, you hurt others by your high and mighty attitude!

Isn't Leyden one of the highest paying schools? Why aren't the kids performing at a higher level. How can you say you have better teachers when kids are performing at a mediocre level, but are getting paid higher than most of the prestigious schools in the entire state??? please reply

You obviously don't know what other schools pay. The only schools around that pay less than Leyden are Proviso, Elmwood Park, Morton, and Chicago Public. Also, just because the students have the possibility of a great education, doesn't mean they are going to take that opportunity. The students at Leyden have the option to get a fantastic education, without good teachers, they won't have this option.
