Should the mayor be using the one call service of the city to promote it? I certainly hope he isn't doing that. I just got a call. I am for it but I won't use citizen's money to promote my choices.

Do it Franklin. It's time. But let's keep those Gold City boys off the drink. Their roads are too crooked to go home on after tossing a few back.

Really? Like we're supposed to believe Franklin's only hope is beer? Yeah right. This is all about making alcohol 'easy' to purchase for those addicted to drinking. Addiction comes in many forms. Most drinkers are like other addicts, you dont know when to stop. You dont understand what 'in excess' is, and dont care. Because you dont care, thus drinking and driving, you place everyone else on the Roads in danger..........is causing someone their life worth it just so you can run into the local gas station to buy your beer? I'm voting NO for package stores and counter sales of beer. As many of you for this election are fond of saying........that's my right!

Bit is it better for those you call addicts to drive to Bowling Green or Portland and have further to drive home and place more people in danger? And are you calling everyone who enjoys a drink an addict? Sure sound that way!

There are some who drink a beer and thats enough but most drinkers do not know when they are 'in excess', when too much is too much. But sadly, even driving after even one beer can place other people in danger. If youre gonna sit home and drink a 6pack of beer, and stay at home afterwards, I cant see how driving to purchase it beforehand would be such an issue.

So instead of holding people accountable for DUI and driving from BG or Portland drunk, let's sell it here so they won't have as far to drive. DUI is DUI no matter how far you drive. So excuse to debate on. As for the economic impact, all the pro gamblers and pro liquor by the drink people you preach on how they would make Franklin a booming town. Not one new restaraunt due to the liquor by the drink and no new hotels or stores from the instant racing machines. The tax money from them both are pitiful. Maybe 5-10 minimum wage jobs will be created at the expense of the taxpayer. Sounds like an Obama plan.

To me, the real value of allowing liquor sales in Franklin isn't the convenience. I have a glass of wine with dinner in my own home once or twice a week. I can buy a few bottles of wine when I go to BG or Tennessee and stock them in my pantry. I don't need to shop for liquor every day or every week. The real value of allowing liquor sales is the possibility of getting a really good grocery store (along with the jobs it provides)-- which, in turn, will be an attraction to more new residents and businesses. Don't get me wrong, I shop at Walmart and Piggly and like them both for different reasons. But getting another grocery store is a signal to potential businesses and residents that Franklin is a place with a future. If XYZ big chain supermarket moves here, then there must be potential, right? Also, a big chain supermarket will bring customers from nearby counties (where there are no such stores) and Tennessee (where there is a high sales tax on everything) to Franklin -- rather than our own residents going elsewhere to shop. I am certain that there are Franklin people who drive to BG or Gallatin or Hendersonville to shop at other brand grocery stores. I know I do. The stores curently here in town just don't carry some of the particular items I like. Before I moved to Franklin from another state, I looked around at surrounding counties. I made my decision on whether it looked like the town was moving ahead or sliding backwards. There are several towns and counties nearby that seem to be on a slippery slope to oblivion. I didn't want to buy a house, start a business, and stake my future on a town with no growing businesses, no good restaurants, and not even one serious grocery store. Nobody else would want to move to a place like that either. And the people who can move away will. Look at towns in nearby counties, and you can see which ones I am talking about. Franklin looked like it was moving ahead. When I found out that Lowes was building here, that was important. Not just because it was handy (which it surely is), but because of the signal it sent. Lowes gives a lot of thought as to where to put their stores. They certainly would not have invested that kind of money unless they were sure that there was growth potential here. More business also means more tax money, for maintenance, improvements, schools, and everything else we need. So that's my reasoning with voting YES. It's not really about the liquor, it's about the future.

The more of you outsiders that come in and "tell us what we need" and are missing out on, the worse things get here. Sitting around drinking and spending my money on gambing, lottery and alcohol doesn't sound like much of a life to me. U have really changed my mind about Franklin.

Sitting around drinking and spending my money on gambing, lottery and alcohol doesn't sound like much of a life to me. Take your ass back to where you came from and take all your buddies with you...... Thank you very much for your Southern hospitality. I guess I don't understand why my money is "dirty." When I go into local businesses to spend it, nobody seems to think so. I spent many, many years of very hard work to get what I have -- which isn't all that much. I'm not an out-of-towner; I live here and have for years. I bought a home. I started a business. I pay taxes. And I treat everyone I meet in my business life and my personal life with kindness and consideration. You know, the "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" sort of kindness. Who knows, I may have even met you and treated you kindly. While I have a glass of wine occasionally, I don't gamble, I don't play the lottery, I don't smoke, I don't do drugs, and I don't make nasty remarks about people. One of the things I like about Franklin is that many of its people have the same hard-work ethic that I was brought up on. So I can overlook an occasional xenophobic malcontent.
