I am in the neighborhood to open a business in Franklin. I have been looking around at a few of the places already established and I want something totally different. I already have a few places in TN, but I am always looking for new things. My question is, can Franklin handle a sports bar type setting? If not, I won't even consider it and move on. I would just like everyone's opinion on what they would like to have in Franklin. Please give me your ideas. Thank you.

Franklin will not support it. There is insufficient mentality to support a sports bar. They only want a bar where they can go on a Saturday night and go home with someone else's spouse. Now if you open a bar and give out free samples of crack you will be overrun by the crackheads that inhabit areas such as Harristown or as I like to call Downtown Browntown.

Need to think about opening a Drag Queen bar, there's lots of unemployed drag queens running around Franktown. They'd be grateful and would be so entertaining. Think of all the joy you would bring to the hood.

It could work, it would just need the right leadership. If it were more upscale it would help. Ban smoking in the place and I think it would take off. I'm all for it.

Thanks for your comment. As far as the other comments go, I kind of expected a few of them. Just from my experiences, I can tell that people in this town do not mix very well. Also, the upscale thing is a must and smoking wouldn't even be thought of. I would like to think the people of Franklin would want a little more than what they have now. I visited one place this past Saturday and I must say I wasn't very impressed with the over all atmosphere. I am sure there are others that like it, but I can see room for potential.

Stay in Tennessee with your predjudice no smoking attitude. This is Kentucky where tobacco is grown. We have several non smoking places, we dont need more. A sportsbar might go o.k. in Bowling green. That is all non smoking. More variety of people. Franklin is just too small but we love it like it is. I agree withthe person that said something for the kids, like skating or bowling, etc.

You are correct in saying people in Franklin do not mix well...they are a little socially challenged but they do love sports...keep it upscale and don't put up with bad bevavior and I say go for it! and good luck Biz Owner!

I personally think it would be great!! Franklin needs more places to hang out and enjoy a good meal, a drink and a great game in tv. A place that could also be kid friendly too!!

Thank you all so far. I knew that a no smoking policy would offend a few people. Just because tobacco is grow in Kentucky doesn't mean it has to all be smoked in Franklin. I think they were trying to in the bar that I was in Saturday night. The other places that I operate are all no smoking and it isn't even an issue. They are music/t.v. oriented and have a regular, returning customers. Anymore feedback I can get will be appreciated as I am still very early in the planning stages of this.

Great idea! I would love to go somewhere besides my place and watch March Madness basketball with friends. Also it would be cool if you put a small or medium sized stage in there as well so that way bands could come and play (local musician lol). It's all about putting your foot down to the idiots and troublemakers and being friendly and polite at the same time to the local people around here. Not all of us are bad, it's just the small part that makes the rest of us look bad. COME ON IN!
So ya know

It may not matter anyway since a high percentage of your overall sales must derive from food. If it's a sports 'bar', then you must assume most of your sales will be from alcohol. Also, ban smoking if you want to, BUT at the very least set up a designated area for smoking to be allowed. Keep it 'upscale' and country club oriented if you want to, but the middle class money is just as green.

A bar wouldn't work if you ban smoking. Too many other places to go to get a drink, smoke, socialize, and watch the games. I don't smoke but i don't see that working at all. Add a loud band to that and mix and you've pretty much destroyed the social atmosphere. I agree w/others. Forget the bar, put in a family place like a skate rink or something!

I would much rather go to a non smoking establishment. If people had to smoke they could go outside like they do in BG.

The people that aren't willing to do that can continue to go to the current places in town. As a non smoker, I can't go to any bar in town to watch a game without reaking of smoke when I leave.

Okay, I am starting to see both sides of this topic. I could definately designate a smoking area, outside. That solves that. The places that I currently manage have canned music (dj) and a small band from time to time. My other patrons seem to enjoy this. I am also very aware of the food/alcohol ratio as it pertains to the laws. Actually, this may be the deciding factor in my decision to locate here or not.
