I am a professional who teaches courses in customer service. I now have a new "what not to do" example for my course. I just had the most rude treatment by the female owner of Five Corners Store in Beulah, MI over a $30 watch. Without going into extreme detail, I was just doing what I was told to do by the owner's husband or brother-in-law in December who said to come back and see them in July. Neither man was available today. However, she treated me like I was making the whole scenario up and didn't believe what I said. We are long term vacationers in Beulah and return every Christmas and July. We have always been treated so kindly by every store owner we have encoutered, until now. Maybe she was having a bad day. However, I will NEVER frequent the FIVE CORNERS STORE in Beulah, MI again. Knowing what I know about customer service, I informed the owner that it wasn't about the watch or the money, it was the way she was treating me. Her reply, "I'm not being rude to you. I haven't raised my voice once." If she took my customer service class, that kind of response would merit a failing grade!!!! With the buying seasons so short and the economy so bad, I would expect better treatment. I guess the owner of FIVE CORNERS STORE is doing just fine and doesn't need my money. It's a good thing, because she will never get it again.

Sounds to me like there is much more to this story than meets the eye. Perhaps you should have gone into the detail that you declined to do in your posted comment. I have shopped in Five Corners many times, and I have always been treated with the utmost courtesy and respect. I am well acquainted with all five of the owners, and I have never met such a friendly, enthusiastic, and determined group of merchants. I think that if you were to ask around town, you would find that most if not all of the Beulah community agree with me. It sounds to me like you went into their store looking for a reason to be angry, and you took the owner's comments out of context to fit your need to vent. If you really did teach customer service, you know that there are two sides to every story. While it is true that the customer is always right, it is also true that there is just no pleasing some people. I will continue to shop at Five Corners, and I look forward to their continued success.

I couldn't agree more with 'happytobeinbeulah'. Five Corners is a great store! The people there are always so friendly, and they have some really cool stuff. Not sure why the initial poster felt it necessary to slam them, especially without putting forth all the facts. Gotta wonder what she's NOT telling us. If this is an example of what she teaches in her "class", then I guess I'll never be her student.....

You could not be more wrong - FIVE CORNERS always goes out of their way for the customer. Sounds like you are cranky and need a nap and might need a new profession Belittled by Owner wrote: I am a professional who teaches courses in customer service. You sound like a really cranky customer - FIVE Corners is a great asset to our community. Th owners couldn't be friendlier. They go the extra mile in customer service truth be told. Maybe you deserve a FAILING GRADE in the customer dept. Get over it.

Well, it's been 3 weeks, and the original poster hasn't returned to shed more light on her story. I suppose, as someone who 'teaches customer service', she feels it's perfectly acceptable to impugn the reputation of a local business without providing any facts, then just waltz merrily on her way. Does she teach this in her class? Pretty pathetic behavior if you ask me, and certainly NOT professional. Five Corners is a wonderful store, with nice merchandise and a very friendly staff of family members who are trying to make a positive impact in their community. The original poster just sounds like a bad customer.....

It appears that the unhappy patron goes by the handle of singinscrapper in several different scrapbooking blogs and forums, and she apparently badmouthed Five Corners in the QVC community too. Her name is Tammy and she lives in Kentucky.
Anyway, her comments on the web related to other topics are a hoot. I found one thread in which she was debating going out to dinner with an old classmate without telling her husband. Tammy, shame on you!
