You make a good point, but the problem is that nobody wants to pay the taxes required to give the kids a cushy environment. Kids have been dealing with the timer heating since before I was born. This isn't new. It takes money to fix a problem like this, and a lot of it. Yet everyone is screaming "Taxed Enough Already!"
I'm not asking to treat any kid cushy. But, even in the old west, school teachers saw the importance of the classroom being comfortable. To hot or to cold and your mind is not on the teacher or books. It's on cold feet/hands/ears and these children are not getting the education they need to survive in this world. I do not object to taxes as long as they are used where the people of Ky believe they are going. What happened to the promise if we let the lottery in, no school would do without? What happened to no child left behind? These are the kids that will be running our world (if we have one left).

Sure, I'm with ya on this. But it comes down to funding. The governor and legislature don't want to raise taxes, and a lot of people don't want to pay them either, so there is no money to overhaul the thousands of schools in Kentucky (much less across the US) that have these timed heating systems.

When I was in school, we weren't allowed to wear shorts - just jeans.

No AC in school or buses.

Kids are too pampered today.

I don't see anything wrong with having AC, but you make a good point. We weren't pampered, yet we learned just the same. I think the kids of today will learn as well, even if some days are hot and some days are cold. Sure, I'd like the perfect temperature for them, but if it's not, it's not the end of the world. Remember, there's a teacher in there sweating or wearing a sweatshirt to keep warm, too. And probably griping to the principle about the temperature, too.

Heck, the thermostat at work can't be changed by anyone but the janitors, and there are days I get hot too. That's just life, I'd say.

Thank you for this post.

We must remember that in any typical classroom there are at least 22-30 students. There is no way to find a temperature setting that keeps everyone in the room 100% happy, teacher included. This is why you dress accordingly, wear layers, and find ways to adapt as the temperature changes. Each individual in the classroom may prefer the room to be warmer or cooler depending on their needs and chemical make up.

Let's stop nit-picking school systems over the temperature in the classrooms. Send your child with a sweater if they get cold easily or send them with layers they can shed if they get warm quickly. It's a no brainer. If you want to play an active role in your child's education, volunteer at their school, stay involved, find out how to be an advocate for your child's learning in a meaningful way.

My issue is that they don't let kids go to the bathroom at EMS. It is especially important to girls at certain times of the month.

Reality, I am totally with you on that. A lot of the schools are like that. I do not get it. I understand that their reasoning is because some of the children are misbehaving in the bathroom. But that doesnt mean that the other children should be punished. Its ridiculous.

I have a HUGE issue with some not allowing students not to wash their hands and having to use hand sanitizer only. I I have seen kids have dirt and Lord knows what else on their hands at the end of the day and they are expected to eat like that. What has our world come to? Parents, pay attention to your children. Teach them right from wrong so that the teachers can allow them to use the restroom and wash their hands!!!

Probably because some girls seem to be on their periods every single day. Kids take total advantage with bathroom privileges if you let them! They'd rather spend ten minutes wandering the halls doing nothing than sitting in a classroom learning.

I don't feel sorry for them because they lie all the time to get out of class. Guys don't have some instant excuse to get out of class every time they want.

If kids would not take advantage of bathroom passes then teachers might let them more.

Girls now need a note from a doc to go to the bathroom? Teachers know who and who do not take advantage. I happen to have a straight A student who has never been in trouble. Yes they exist!

Like anywhere, the schools vary in quality. Elkhorn Middle School is, well... bad. There's no way to sugar coat it.
Franklin County High School, however, has improved dramatically and is a very good school today.
PLEASE, you all have the biggest WIGGERS in the state. You need to put some mirrors in that school (let the kids see how stupid they look)

Hearn is a new school. It would seem like they would have thought of that when they built the school 2 or 3 years ago.
My kid goes to Hearn and has for several years. Not once has he complained about the temperature at school. Maybe you kid is just a whiny crybaby?

Hey, sorry some FC dude stole your girlfriend, or you got beat in soccer, or whatever, but you're really just making yourself look stupid. Do they really still say "wigger" in Washington County? I mean I know you all are behind the times, but still...

Are you seriously going to get on a public website and make fun of an elementary student?? Very classy and a good example for your child. Bullying is wrong coming from a child and completely wrong coming from an adult. Yes calling any child a whiny crybaby is bullying. You should be ashamed.
