While some of you are more concerned with complaining about the fact that this child's mother shouldn't be in our country in the first place, the issue here is the child so please get your mind and your hearts in the right place. Everything else aside she didn't kill or abuse the child like many others have. I agree Walmart isn't the safest place to leave the child but her heart was in the right place. She wanted more for her child than what she herself could give. So look past where the child and mother came from and look at the fact that there is a 2 yr old little boy who needs everyone's help. Keep this child in your prayers, and the mother as well. Think of how hard it had to be for her to give this baby up. And for those of you who left comments about "how could a mother do that" well look at her probable choices, she could let her child starve to death and live in horrible conditions, or she could take the child to a place she knows will have several people who would notice him and hopefully help. Once again Walmart isn't the best place to drop off a child, but its better than the streets. And she isn't from around here so I doubt she knows about the No Child Left Behind Law, so she most likely didn't know the places considered safe to drop him off. Just be glad he is safe and quit looking at all the negative.

This has nothing to do with anything. Who CARES if she was illegal or not. Lots of "AMERICANS" go on killing sprees in schools, why don't you talk all your smack about them. This is whats wrong with this country. Why don't all other so called "Americans" get off of welfare?? "Land of the Free" my ass!
She probably has problems and is not thinking clearly. I'm not making excuses for her, this was unacceptable!! But it COULD have been alot WORSE.

Why don't the WHOLE FAMILY go back to Guatemala?? Willingly or otherwise!! Why should out government have to take care of this child for the next 16 years and his mother in our prision system for abandoning him?? She is not too smart ~ if she would have taken him the the hospital and left him she would be a free lady instead of a wanted fugitive!! Does he have an American father who bought a mail order bride then decided he was done with her or maybe he was her free ticket to America. We have too much crime in our country and we need to be a bit more causious who we let thru the borders.

I'm sure she is illegal. What else is new in our society. Send her back home (ASAP). SICK of these people. Don't get me wrong it is not the childs fault. Thank god some random freak did not get a hold of him. By the way it has alot to do if your illegal.(Obviously you are a freaking liberal.) Why should we have to take care of these people.(Don't we have enough problems of our own?)

Well to Charles Stone, and Indianapolis I hope you don't have children. And no I don't agree with all the illegal people we have in the United States. My views on illegals are probably similar to your own, however this is a child. He did not get a choice in where he was born. And Indianapolis telling me to "GET A LIFE", how ignorant are you seriously. My whole post was about the fact that this is a CHILD WHO NEEDS HELP. If you people don't have enough compassion for a child then you need help. Yes I agree send the mother back to Guatemala, but so many Americans would love to adopt that child to give him a chance in this world. My point is that you aren't even looking at the issue of the child. All you care about is the fact that they shouldn't have been in our country in the first place. And honestly I would rather spend my tax money on helping an innocent child from another country, rather than these low lives who are on the link card because they spend all their money on drugs or they just plain out don't want to work. If you don't agree then by all means go pick some scum off the street and just hand them your hard earned money or better yet just go buy them drugs and alcohol yourself. This mother is asking us to help her 1 child, I don't think that is too much to ask compared to these people who keep reproducing and keep getting more and more money from our paychecks. Be logical not ignorant. And if you have a come back to my post then please enlighten me, but please have something better than telling me to get a life or deport them. My assumption is that you don't have a good argument for me so you make stupid remarks.

It is sad that we state "give us your tired your opoor your huddled masses", but when those come here legally or illegally they can't find help or ask for help because of our ideas to treat them like the Chinese immigrants in the 1800's. She probably felt she herself couldn't ask for help or she would have been deported. She did in fact make sure her son was safer and well cared for, and for all that we assume we know, she may have sacrificed her son so he had a chance. Put your selved in a dire situation, be forced to another country in order to find closed doors and forced through circumstance to lose your child.

We are blessed to be in such a country we don't feel we have to flee in order to survive or have the basic neccessities so I see why so many have jugde this woman because we as americans take for granted we will never and maybe have never been forced into such circumstance. God bless America and the financial assistance we can turn to if we are ever in dire need.

Sldrs Wife: Well, obviously, and luckily, you have never been in need of assistance. It isnt that easy. Unless you quit your job and loose everything you have, you usually make too much money to obtain any assistance at all. I have been there.... but, we were unwilling to quit our jobs to get help, so we had to turn to family members who gave what they couldnt afford to help us out for a short while.
If you are willing to work for a living, and get in a bind, you are on your own. Only those who are not willing to put forth the effort to make a living are given a hand out, and then it is removed quickly enough once you DO start to dig out, that you might as well not have had any help at all. It is a NO WIN situation for those of us who are doing all we can to survive!!!

<quoted text> AMEN to everything you said!!! As a proud Mom to 2, precious, Adopted Sons (5yrs. & 18 mos.).... Both of whom are of Hispanic heritage I have already called the authorities in Clinton County to offer this child a loving, FOREVER family. Where is the compassion? SO many of the comments posted here are cruel, cold and callous. Nobody knows the desperation in this Mother's heart. She did the best she could do in her circumstances and she needs our prayers, NOT our condemnation. As for this precious baby boy... He WILL be loved. Your post is 100% correct - there are MANY families in line to give him the loving, caring home he needs. Bless the Mother and the child.
Guat Tot Mom and Amy are informed and compassionate women. I will work to emulate your attitudes and behavior as I hope others will. We never know what's really going in someone's head or life and have no right to judge.

WalMart's a safe environment? I don't think so!
Have you been to Guatemala? Wal-Mart would be way up on the 'safe' list. She should have taken him to the proper authorities. But I'd not be surprised if she feared them. You would have to be in her shoes to know why she chose Wal-Mart, I think what we should do is 1st Praise God the boy was not harmed, 2. Pray for mom. I can only imagine how painful it was for her to leave him there. Maybe she feared she would have to return to Guatemala and she unselfishly left him there to secure him a home here.

I have a 2yr old and i could never abandon him. she may have thought she was doing the right thing but what if a molester or murderer got a hold of him and left with him. Thank god for the Walmart employees and the foster family. I wish him nothing but the best.
Yea know, if her fear was returning to Guatemala, there most likely would not be a "what IF" molester or murderer got a hold of him, it would most likely be "WHEN" a molester or murderer got a hold of him.

Those of you that are slamming her put her shoes on. Spend a few hours studying Guatemala. Then come back to this thread and tell how you would take your child to the authorities here, or how you would take your child to Guatemala. This woman has most likely lived through more horrors and terrors than most of us can even comprehend. You people need to climb down off of your pedestal and 1. ask God for forgiveness for your reactions. 2. ask God to protect and comfort this mom 3. go hug your children and thank God you live in a country where your children can grow-up in a safe and happy environment! 4. Ask God to spare you from such desperation.
