Investigate Pet Grooming Schools & Associations

My opinion: Not only should this Pet Grooming School be investigated but all pet grooming schools. Pet Grooming Associations that Certify pet groomers as Certified Master Groomers also should be investigated. Owners/Presidents of some of these pet grooming associations often qualify themselves as "Certified Master Groomers" and certifiers. Schools are held accountable by a state license, but who holds these pet grooming associations accountable? Why are groomers not required to be State Licensed before these associations certify them?

News stories indicate more and more pets are being injured and killed by pet groomers!
Something needs to be done!!!

Any proposed licensing should require groomers to be examined for mental/emotional issues and tested for drugs & drinking problems.

According to the Greensboro News-Record, a freelance dog groomer in Greensboro, N.C., was charged with killing her roommate’s dog.

its not hard to understand why groomers are not licensed.

License or no license - Rules and Regulations are clearly needed!!

When will pet owners demand that States require pet groomers and the pet grooming industry to establish minimum standards for the training and education of pet groomers ?
Only when state licensing is required of pet groomers will such voluntary association certifications really mean something.
Untill them certified or not pet owners need to beware of any groomer even association certified groomers. Pet groomers that spend a lot of money for these association's certifications also need to be cautious and investigate these association.
Many of these association presidents start their organization to certify them self and a handful of friends. Others often with years more experience grooming than these association presidents get sucked into certification just so they can add some meaningless letters after their name. It should be noted that the oldest association - NDGAA - is the only association with a registered certication trademark. These new associations, infringe, dilute and show no respect for NDGAA's "National Certified Master Groomer" registered trademark when certifing their new associations members with similar "Certified Master Groomer" titles; titles that cannot be trademark registered.
Only when groomers are required a State License will pet owners be assured groomers have the training and education they need. Because no training and education is required, some pet groomers, some with years of experience even some with certifcation from other associations clearly lack self respect. Untill State licensing is required some groomers will seek respect through another and another associations certication. Pretending it means something but knowing it means nothing to pet owners and other pet groomers. The costly rip off potential for groomers and pet owners assumptions that certication with out State licensing means anything grows with each new association certifing pet groomers.
Question ? do these certifing associations have any liability or responsiblity for those they train and certify. If not, why not?
Who is responsible if my beloved pet is hurt or killed when I choose a pet groomer because he/she were certified by a certifing association?

Such boards are as much an embarrassment as "Groomer Has It" was for professional groomers.

I to feel that pet groomers should be trained just like beauty shop owners. Just because dogs can not talk does not mean that they should be abused and mistreated. They should have to go to training once a year to keep up with the products and new techniques.
If you have groomed, breed dogs, trained and been around them all your life with out any accidents and have a teaching degree I would say you are qualified to have a grooming school and be able to teach others.
If you feel that schools should be licensed and tested but it on the laws to be passed and it would stop a lot of pet abuse. lets quit talking about it and take action. Who wants to start an organization and get the ball rolling?

Schools are required to have and maintain a State Vocational License; it's pet groomers that are not required to have a State license. Students basically control schools, curriculums and instructors. Students avoid better schools and use any excuse to quit their schooling and training to get their tuition money (usually educational loan money) back; so they can instead use it to start their grooming business. Students don’t have to worry about grades or even passing the
(so called) difficult course as many schools have to make course very easy just to get students. Schools make it easy so the school can keep student’s as long as possible so the school can keep more of the student's tuition. States tend to question schools if student failure rates are to many. Pet grooming is not for everyone and many students only learn that after they start training. Even discovering that pet grooming is not for them but because the money can be good they still start a grooming business of their own in their home. They can do this because they don't have to complete their schooling or training since no State license or even a school “certificate of completion” is needed to start grooming. A business permit and/or tax permit is all that is really needed. Many don’t get either; that way they can hide their pet grooming business and incomes grooming in their homes.
