Yes there is a bond. If you don't receive a call from a teacher in the next week or so. Or if just don't want to wait you can go up to the school and ask them for more information.

To you heard wrong, that was just rude. They haven't made a big deal out of it and had I not been at a ballgame I wouldn't know. No harm in someone wanting more information about where their kids go to school or the fact our property taxes would change.

Well, what are they going to build? Or is it only for iPads? I have only heard there is going to be a bond to vote on in Feb, but nothing else. So, I have no why of knowing how to vote. No info guess it means a no vote for me too.

There is going to be a meeting in the next couple weeks or so. Not sure what date but I think it'll be on a Wednesday. If you have questions about the bond issue this would be important meeting to go to. If you can't make it to this meeting (when I find out date & time I'll post it) then call the school they are willing to discuss it with anyone. I do know they are wanting to build a new lunch room but not sure what else. We are out growing our school and changes need to be made.

That's interesting, I have been told there will not be a public meeting. Due to the fact that is why Elk City's bond did not pass. Why can't they just put it in the paper for all to see? And why would talking to a teacher or anyone else at that school help with the info, since due to many of the teachers and administration do not live in the Merritt district. So, their taxs will not be increasing. Would be interesting to know how they voted on the Elk City bond.

They are building new class room and iPads in every room and kids get laptops and sporting equipment and stuff like that which is stupid and I've heard that they might redo the playground which was suppose to be done with the last bond they got. VOTE NO

There is a dinner meeting on February 8 at 5:30pm at the school. Facts are facts if you go to the school and ask for the information regarding the bond issue they will give it to you. The PTO has been trying to raise money for the playground, not sure how they are doing on the funds. We are out growing our school and changes need to be made. We've lived out there for over 13yrs and there's been no changes in the taxes so unless the ideas are senseless I'm leaning towards yes. I'll make my final choice once I've heard what the money will be used for.

No, the bond is for the addition to our buildings. We have way bigger classes in the elem. then in the High school. We need more classes rooms and space. Also, it's added a new cafeteria and library, and computer lab. We actually need all that for the classes we have now, and classes coming up soon.

The bond is for much more than iPads. It will consist of a new library/media room, they will turn the old library into two classrooms. New cafeteria, making the old cafeteria into a music dept and two classrooms. Build a pre-k and kindergarten building w/4 classrooms and bathrooms in every classrom, due to increased enrollment the current elementary building is way way overcrowded. They will re do the playground and have buses parked on the north side so it'll make for easier pick up. It will upgrade something w/ the Internet that'll allow teachers and students online at the same time, currently they are unable to do that. And tablets for the students. They will also remodel the middle school. The enrollment at Merritt increased by like 90 students and a large percentage is in grade 4 and lower. I believe that this bond issue is very reasonable i think it's around 7-8 million dollars. It sounds as though the funds will be used wisely in my opinion. Not near as ridiculous as elk city's was. I live in the district and it's only going to raise taxes 14%, which is not bad mine will go up to about $75 a year so like $6.25 a month, I think I can manage that.

In my opinion Merritt needs this, I graduated from there 10 years ago and the grade school and middle school and cafeteria is still all the same the only difference is they connected the two buildings and put carpet in the classrooms. The facilities are decent just not big enough anymore. And the only reason part of the high school is new is because the old one was burnt down and the other half had to be remodeled because of the damage from the fire, otherwise I bet it'd be way outdated. Sad thing is the bond to build an auditorium my sr year was shot down and now we have to try and cram parents and family of kids in programs in a tiny gym that doesn't seat very many at all. It's just sad that many will vote no w/o considering any of the things I've mentioned in the last two posts. I, on the other hand, will be voting YES.

It's is for a new cafeteria that is a safe room too! Four new class rooms and going to all day pre k! I haven seen anything on new sports stuff we have a lot all ready! We do fundraiser and things! Go the gym in a ball game night have videos and pamphlets. I think it's all necessary maybe not I pads and things but a lot if schools are going to it! Get informed! They had a meeting and plan on another one! The transfer thing I agree people lie about address but the three you mentioned they had been there since kindergarten and in high school. They are getting stricter but Elk has to agree!

Okay, so I understand the elementary building is overflowing. Question is, how many new teachers come with these new classrooms? My understanding there is no money for teachers. Safe room, what is wrong with the shelters we have now? How many times in the past ten years have the shelters actually been used? Not to say there might be a time we need shelter but really, this needs to be added in? For the Cafeteria,my children came home telling us that with a new cafeteria comes better food. Really, where is the new lunch room staff coming from? Said some of the administration was telling the kids to have their parents vote yes and this would happen. Hmmmm! Library, what is wrong with the one they have now? Guess, since I have to rely on word of mouth and everything I hear is different, doesn't make for a yes vote for me. For the Merritt Parent other than you putting the time on here I have not recevied anything from the school about any meeting. So, why do they not put info in the newspapers, send something through the good old USA mail, or add something on the website. Why must I have to go out of my way to try to figure out what is right and what is wrong by the word of mouth! Come on school board members and administration stand by your bond and tell one story to all your students and parents!

You would have to request a transfer to go to school out of your district that's a Oklahoma requirement not district.

they sent a note home with the kids but I'm guessing they scheduled it during a basketball game so no one would come. I know I couldn't go cause I was at the game.

I've talked to different people involved in this and it seems like they are trying to get the people who don't have to pay property taxes to vote cause what do they care they rent or live in the trailer parks.

Not saying we don't need this but I don't like the way they are going about it. I haven't seen a budget outline of how they want to spend the money.

Just not sure they have thought this out enough to get my vote.

Oh yes they will start taking more transfers and if they have more kids move in they still have the transfers and then we're back where we are now. We're not Elk City, we can't take all these transfers and risk making the kids that live in the district go to school in overcrowded classrooms.
