No, they do not live their lives like everyone else in White Settlement. When I get the candy that I ordered and paid for from one of their kids many months ago then maybe I will believe you. Until then, I sure hope they are not like everybody here.

I really wish it was just a few of them that act that way. However, I have lived in White Settlement almost my whole life and I see them every where I go. Most of them act the way they are described in here. I worry about the little girls because of the way they dress. I'm always worried they are going to get attacked by some pervert because there is no adult supervision...

. What do you mean some pervert? There are perverts in white settlement tx? I thought it was a virtual utopia where no crime existed unless a traveler was involved. You people are so mis informed it's not even funny. In this new age of enlightenment and acceptance of all things that you people would be more understanding? An other post accused a traveler of littering.. I guess all litter can be attributed to travllers. What else can be blamed on those pesky travellers? I'm sure you'll think of something.

Most of the negative post here from settled people is just about not being able to comprehend a quite different, and very clannish ethnic/cultural group.. I promise you if a bunch of Amish moved into your neighborhood you'd be just as alarmed...In the period of time before the Amish marry and settled down they often run wild, likewise with the Irish Travelers. Who almost always marry for life.

Strange it seems that most that are saying the people just do not understand the Irish Travelers are people who do not even live in this area.

No, it is not a case of do not understand. It is a group of people who seems to feel that cheating and stealing are wrong--but only when it is to their own group--to other people it seems to be just fine. When they become law abiding then they will be more accepted--but not until then.

To those that say not all are that way, then those need to get out of the community and move to another area where you will be accepted. If you are a part of the group, you will be judged the same as the rest of the group.

Straight forward, unvarnished bigotry PERIOD. Substitute any other race, ethnicity, even socio-economic class and it would be crystal to anyone with eyes to see...DISAGREE would'nt attach his real name to those comments if they were made in the local paper...

I am not a bigot at all. I grew up as a white person in a prejudiced world--probably way before you were born. I know what it is to be prejudiced. I was here when blacks could not sit in the front of the bus or even drink from a white person's water fountain in one of our stores. I was raised to be prejudiced and I was in my youth, but I have overcome that now.

No, it is not that at all. I have had dealings with some of these people and no, it is not begin a bigot. It is about not trusting from experience.

I may live in Florida, but I am a member of the larger community of which you speak... And have been to a number of Traveller social events in Fort Worth (Wedding & funerals). The broad brush with which you are painting an entire community is a throw back to another time... While it may be true that not all Travellers are angels, we're not the devils you'd have people believe. Just a few points worth mentioning... Irish Travellers family values are a time machine to the 1950's America you'd remember well: Marriages are almost always for life, drug use is nearly unheard of, Traveller kids while admittingly some are unruly, are taught respect for their elders from birth... Perhaps some of that might balance out you impression of your neighbors...

Well, Mel, I do see you are probably a member of this group. I have heard that they have branches out in other areas.

I have seen too much wrong done by this group to ever believe they are the wonderful group you make them out to be.

Yes, their children are definitely unruly. I have seen the disruption they cause in businesses. For instance, their teenagers trashing a restaurant and having to be told in one they could not be throwing their basketball around in the restaurant. I have seen them drive up in cabs and sling a little money at the cab driver and take off and refuse to pay all of their bill. This is the way they are raising their children who have no respect for people outside of their group.

When they had several of their young people killed in a car wreck a few years ago, the one young driver had so many drivers licenses with different ages that they were never able to determine his age.

As I stated, I have had business dealings with some of their group--and they are not the honest people you are trying to portray them as being.

You can be sure, no, I will not give my name. When we live near enough to them we have learned to be very fearful of them.

There has been too much corruption for it not to be just a few of them. If someone does not want to be classified as they are now classified, as I stated previously, then they need to move out of their community.

For those not familiar with the area "White Settlement" could be charitably described as a Working Class area, even by Fort Worth standards...The Travellers are somewhat conspicuous in that their obviously much wealthier than their neighbors. Being as clannish as I know them to be, the rumors & distrust is somewhat understandable (If not exusable)... Still you would think the benifit to property values would salve some of the hard feelings...
