First off, the company is giving these groups thier plan in a meeting forum. Then break off into idividual work groups, where they will detail the plan and begin a negotiation process. It only seems logical this would be done after confidentiality statements are signed and the media not invited. That having been said we are dealing with AMR management team. Yup better call the cops

What not is being said is the vast majority of job cuts are coming from the well paid and experienced MX departments

and not from the entry level and far more poorly paid Eagle Baggage Handlers.

20% pays cuts for the average frontline employee who is not so decently paid as all the skilled MX who are losing their careers.

This is going hurt.

AMR will outsource maintenance and ramp in almost all non-hub cities! Hopefully if these employees have any other skills they can accept a current job posting on the internal employee website. Word is there are dozens of current openings posted.

horton is no better then Arpey or Carty! He will still get his millions while frontline employees hit the unemployment line. This will put a dent in Obamas recovery plan. Thousands out of work in one sweep! Union or not they were still the workers of the airline that lined the CEO's pockets along with the fat cat shareholders on the board.

Prost is so confused by all this he can"t even spell. He must have knocked a few back after hearing his seniority will only get him a plant maintenance job in Alaska. All the AMR TWU employees should personally thank their Pilots for refusing a lousy 10% paycut vs the BK alternative. Maintenance will be outsourced by 50% at AMR!! So long DFW and lots of outline stations. What really is shocking is that the unions haven't got a clue to what is really happening here. If the light bulb doesn't turn on soon, these people could be looking at liquidation.

The company laid out it's plan. As expected by anyone with half a brain they asked for the world. Now comes an a negotiation period. If the unions and company cannot arrive at a plan, the judge will decide for them. There is a good chance I will have to leave a small station for a hub. I could lose my 2nd house in 25 years. When I get to the hub I will get my weekends off back.

With the losses AMR is piling up already. That 4 Billion is going to go fast. I cannot see them exiting BK without some DIP financing/partnership. 18 months is a long way off with a depressed European economy to go it alone. The unions caught themselves with their pants down on this one. They should have been more co-operative back in November. This one is going to sting alot I think. Prepare yourself for the worst case scenario.

I can't believe a company can cut 13,000 jobs and hardly anyone in the media bats an eye.

It is a preliminary number. It will be less. But still impact thousands. Yes, it sucks. The media has covered it where it matters to them. Ask people in Tulsa

TO; Someone;
First off, believe that American can lose that many workers at one time and not effect the company or the media.
American is a bloated , wasteful, poorly managed company that basically has 10 workers for every 5 needed jobs. They have to do this because the vast majority of workers at American work only 2 or 3 hours of an 8 hour day, thus needing all those extra workers.

That's because the left owned media is busy showing the 13,000 jobs created by the Obama administration at the same time, so in the eye's of the media, it's a wash.

Nobody is walking off their jobs. This time AA is playing hardball and everyone know's it. It will be nearly impossible to find another aviation job in 2012.

I doubt 2012 will be a benchmark of change either, unless it's more bad news.

Employees had the ability to negotiate prior to bankruptcy. Now, the company and the court will lay down how it will play out for the company to survive.

Cowtown,
You are absolutely correct. The employees/unions decided to roll the dice and they came up Snakeyes. They lost! Now the threat of petition 1113 is being considered to modify contracts if the unions continue to play hardball. Start up the bonfires to burn all those cute little union regulation books you carry in your back pockets.

They get another go around at it. not to say they will come to an agreement on anything. And yes, the judge will have the final say.

American's executives said that they have staked their reputations on the reorganization plan and that it will return the airline to profitability

Read more here: http://www.star-telegram.com/2012/02/02/37086... What is the timeline on that? We provided lifestyle changing givebacks in 2003 and nothing came of it. Maybe there should be more change at the top. I have long wondered why the Board of Directors stood by and allowed the only entity in it's industry to consistantly lose money to be run by the same people.

You need a little light relief at the moment and one of the best ways to find it today is to get together with someone who always makes you laugh. You might even want to tell them what's going on in your life at the moment so you can get their perspective on it. This will help to keep your feet on the ground and then you won't feel quite so miserable or beset by problems.
