DFW Smoking Ordinances

I think that it is pretty crappy that Dallas can ban smoking in bars and such, but supposidly they can't do anything about the smoking outside of Childrens hospital? They have told us that its city property outside of the hospital and since thats the case y can they not do anything about this?

Smoking stinks. I wish Addison would ban it in restaurants & bars. Can't even go to Sherlocks for happy hour cuz the place is smoked up. Also can't go to the bowling alley on main in Lewisville cuz the place is all smoked up. Yuck.

I think smoking should be banned indoors period. 2nd hand smoke is very dangerous. Outside I don't have that much of a problem with it.

I don't care about the health risks it just stinks. I'm tired of being around it and the stupid smoke soaking my clothes.
I associate smoking with the poor that are featured on the TV show cops and with illiterate teenage mothers with a baby on their hip. This is the 21st century people and it just looks stupid.

I still believe an establishment should have its own choice to allow smoking or not. The people will decide. If they don't like the smoking establishment they will go next door to the non-smoking one. If establishment A loses enough customers then they will convert too. I just believe government should keep their noses out of what is still a legal activity because there is always something else they want to regulate. What is next?

Problem is smokers are rude and don't care about those that don't smoke. even in non-smoking areas. Smokers are all kicking up a sting about these ordinances but it they are doing smokers a favor plus, it keeps smoke away from non smokers. If you wanna smoke it should be done at you home, everyone else has to pay for your filthy habit.

Never claimed to be a smoker. I see lots of non-smokers yell about smokers while they think they have to be two inches from you after drinking all night or throwing their trash out the window. Why don't they make a law against THAT too? Fat people in Spandex offend me...why don't they make a law against THAT? The fact is I have met both rude and polite smokers and non-smokers alike but smokers have the right to be offended if they are sitting outside in a smoking area and a non-smoker decides to choose to be in the one area left to smokers and then complain even though there is another outside selection well out of the way of any smoke. Everybody has rights and I am very much afraid of what they will decide to regulate next for everyone's own good.

i am a smoker and to say i dont care about nonsmokers is crap,i believe smoking should be banned indoors and around parks,hospitals ect..just because i smoke doesnt make me a horrible person,i have family that dont smoke and i am respectful enough not to smoke around none of them.

Not to mention that some places are trying to ban smoking in your homes, cars, etc. I do not believe smoking should be allowed in most places but there still needs to be some place while it is still a legal activity. For the bowler in Lewisville...boo hoo. I go to the other bowling alley in Lewisville that does not allow smoking.

I was not meaning you were a bad person, but a lot of smokers in public places don't give a crap if smoke gets in the faces of non-smokers. I am am glad you are respectful of others. Nut There are a lot out there that are not respectful, as long as they get their smoking fix is all they care about. Sorry to offend you.

because you don't get second hand smoke from people in spandex, it is not the act of smoking that offends non-smokers. Most non-smokers don't care if smokers want to kill them selves go right a head, but when they smoke around non-smokers it is actually worse for a non-smoker around smokers because they don't get the luxury of having a filter before inhaling the smoke. So again the act its self is not why people are offended, it is the health reasons that peole are offended.

Agreed, if you want to smoke in your car or in your house then yeah you should be allowed, I won't disagree with you on that. But you said smokers have rights, so do non-smokers they have the right not to develop cancer from someone else's habit.

The mere fact that a person will smoke in any area in which other people walk or congregate, etc. is indicative of his or her lack of consideration, and because they often take on an outwardly defensive or combative attitude, the perception of smokers generally being rude is very well-earned.

Truth is, while smoking was once thought "cool" and was somehow glamorized back in the old days, once the studies and statistics began to prove what we know today about the outright, undeniable dangers and the utterly corrupt nature of the tobacco industry, ANYONE who smokes is completely lacking any sense and sensibility.

It is thoroughly, unequivocally ... stupid.

As for dining establishments, they ought to all be designated non-smoking - including anywhere on the property. That a person cannot refrain from smoking during the time it takes to dine out is pathetic.

Smoking should also be banned on the premises of any common use public areas.

And here's an idea:
If a smoker wants to smoke, they should sit inside their car with the windows rolled up or stay inside their house. But if ANYONE has a child inside that car or in that house, they should be charged with child endangerment.

Agreed, kinda what I was trying to get across and kinda got shot down for it.

I have several friends that smoke and I have never seen them smoke in a restaurant in a non-designated area. The problem with all of the bans is that if a restaurant, building etc does not have a designated area the smoker will go outside. This still presents a problems as there are no places to smoke outside that are not is somebody's path at one point or another. Smokers still get complaints for smoking in a designated area and people wonder why they get an attitude. Restaurants in cities with bans should get a choice but with proper ventilation. I have seen ventilation systems in buildings that could stand your hair up so it can be done and have everybody happy.

And yes...I do think smokers that intentionally smoke in a non-designated area, throw butts on the ground, etc. should be beat within an inch of their lives...not really but you get the point, but if a smoker is in a designated area and it is in a right-of-way the management is the one that should get the complaints.

I understand what your saying, but as a non-smoker i have been in a restaurant, where they have had a smoking section and a non- smoking section, I don't think smokers realize smoke travels. I have clothes at home that i have washed and not warn for about two years, but they still smell like they have been in an ash tray. So if my cloths smell like that after being washed and not been worn for that long, what does that say to you about what we are breathing in as non-smokers.

Very true. We were seated at a restaurant last summer. Although we were seated in the no-smoking section, we were right next to the smoking section and everyone at that table was smoking. Since I had two daughters, it really irritated me. This is why I think smoking should be illegal in ALL restaurants. If you want to smoke, go outside.

I agree having a smoking and non-smoking area in the same open area is redundant and silly. I have been places that had ventilation systems designed to handle this where if you did have a separate room there was no smoke escaping to other areas. Restaurant owners should have this option available to them if they want to fork over that much money. This is a better option for restaurants and people as the smokers will then stay in their own ventilated area and will not be standing outside on the sidewalk so people entering will not have to walk through a cloud of smoke to enter the restaurant.

That would be acceptable to me.
