Discount grocer Aldi to open local store in early 2010

There it is, I have waited a long time for Aldi to come to Texas. I am from Germany, and I know that the quality is superb and shopping there is fun. Why??? Because you save a ton of money. By the way, they kicked Wal Mart out of Germany, ha, thought that was funny(because I know they like to destroy all small retailers, Wal Mart of course) it does not matter to me, that you have to insert a 25 cent piece into the cart, and when you bring it back, click it into another one and you will receive it back( well that saves the money for the cart boy. lol) you pack your own groceries, into your own bags(or pay 15 cents for plastic, ya.yyy.. America it is time to recycle like the rest of the world. Bring your own bags or collapsible plastic containers, which you can buy at Big Lots), does not bother me, and here you save again. Shouldn't we all be a bit more active. It seems, people who live here become lazier and lazier. They are open from 9-7(wow, we all get an evening off to spend with the family) and,,,,, we don't have to buy our groceries on credit anymore( that is ridiculous to begin with, because Aldi does not accept credit/// but debit cards. We will save a bunch of money, which we can save to go on a nice family vacation. Doesn't that sound like fun,or what???

This is a low class trash grocery store comparable to SAVEALOT. They don't take debit cards because most folks on food stamps don't have them. You don't want this store near your house if you have an interest in maintaining the value of your property.

you don't know crap.and by the way,aldi kicked walmart out of germany, because they maintain a very high quality for foods etc. i guess you don't have an idea, who manufactures the food for aldi. they are big company brands you buy at albertson or tom thum, just for over 1/2 more. before you open your mouth, do a bit more research. non of the aldi's are in nasty neighbor hoods. unless you call middle and upper middle class that. and yes they take debit cards. i don't know if you buy your groceries on credit, i don't because i have money in my bank account and also live in an upper class neighbor hood in keller, texas. so please quit your negativity and tell me how much you make or what your profession is, that you can talk like that. or is it just hot air coming out of your mouth?!

I am the owner of Lockhart Low Cost Cleaning, and we have cleaned many construction sites, but the Aldi stores are on a whole different plateau of clean. They may have kicked Wal-Mart out of Germany, but it's only because Aldi's was already established. And most of Europe hates the U.S. anyways! I seriously doubt that will happen here, the only company BIGGER than Wal-Mart is Exxon. WM will use EVERY dollar, every bully tactic AND every resource available to ensure that Aldi's doesn't steal any of their market share. Personally, I hope Aldi's puts a huge scare into WM, and takes a lot of their business along with it. I HATE how WM treats their employees, and if your a vendor, God help you. If the giant Sears can fall, so can WM. I just hope this isn't another Costco or Sams, if it is, they won't last. I don't need to buy bulk items.

Aldi's has come a long way. I remembered Aldi’s in Indianapolis in the late 70's early 80's they did not have refrigerated items the store was run down and their can goods had black and white labels on them reading, green beans, corn etc. The cereal was in a white box and black writing reading Frosted Flakes, Puffed Rice, etc.. I was embarrassed that my father shopped there. I hated to open our cabinet because my friends knew we had shopped at Aldi's because of the black and white labels on the can goods. Years past I got married and moved away and moved back in the early 90's and WOW!! Aldi's was a new store. The stores were remodeled and they offered refrigerated items. And the black and white labels were gone. I was impressed. I truly loved that store and it is not on the lines of SAVEALOT!! WOOO HOOO.. I can't wait until Aldi's opens!!!

So when does this store open ?
I believe the one on NW highway... near Centerville area will do well. We already have 99cents only and Tom Thumb. There's room for another choice in grocers.

Looks like there will be one near Lowes and Wal-mart near the RidgeMar mall.

Well the Aldi I know does not sell in Bulk like Sams or costco, but has fresh good quality food from namebrand producers in their companies packaging.
When I see what snobby people post here, well you guys go ahead and waste money at Tom Thumb or Krogers go ahead!
I am an upper middleclass household and just like to save money so I can do more useful things with it then waste it at WM or other stores. And when I see how many items WM doesn't carry anymore, now that's sad.
Aldi has everything from Fresh produce to frozen and refrigerated goods. Their Groceries are all manufactured by name brand manufacturers just labeled with their own labels.
I will be an enthusiastic Aldi shopper and can't wait for it to open!!!!

but I've been to Aldi's in NY. They sell off brand products stacked up on wooden pallets. You won't find a bottle of Heinz ketchup or Hellman's mayo. They have a limited refrigerated area with a very small selection of cold items. It's very close to sav-a-lot. Wait until they open and then come back and post your observations. The company will most likely open stores in lower class areas.

We welcome it here in Garland TX. We have the 99cent store that has a few grocery items, but I would probably go to Aldi's instead. And if I want mayo or ketchup, then I will go to Tom Thumb.
I supose you shop at Neiman Marcus too.

I can't wait to check out the store when it opens! Any business that might give walmart a run for it's money has got to be good. People just don't realize how badly walmart is going to treat them once the competition has gone belly up.

I used to go to Aldi's when we visited relatives in Illinois at Christmas each year - my grandmother would give us teens a list and send us out to do her shopping for her - she is wealthy but knows how to save money and her cooking (yes with Aldi's products) is always the best! I'm 31 now and I'm so excited to see it's coming to my area - woohoo Aldi's! I called my sisters to tell them about it when I found out - they were excited too :)

HAHAHA you live in Euless, that is a very high income area. You cannot even find a house for over $300,000 (that is very high income) you need to buy your groceries at Central Market! But wait, you live in Euless! So either drive in my direction to Southlake, or go to the Hulen store. Quiet a trip, huh??

I consider most of Euless lower class to middle class, there are no rich people in Euless. You won't find houses over $300,000. I don't know in what area of Euless you live to say something like that? A lot of apartment complexes, and the older parts have small, and shabby homes(a lot of them). Almost like Watauga and Haltom City. The new Aldi's are very clean and bright.
I know there are people who think they are more than what they are, and they live in a dream world, pretending they are somebody they are not.
They have huge credit card bills, no savings, no money in their wallet, but need the big Cadillac Escalade(for which they pay an interest rate of 15.9%, because of their bad credit), in front of their shabby home. LOL!!!!!And they are stupid, believing they got a good deal on it. So what do you mean by " Not in my neighborhood!" It isn't any special is it?
