Do the patches have serial numbers or other identifying marks? Have the doctors who installed the hernia meshes been willing to give the patients information about the meshes?
Thanks

could someone please answer this question. I have had apogee and have had many complications, absess formation, abdominal pain, fever, and the last was laparoscopic procedure to evaluate the pain- they found nothing but I had internal bleeding

Patches manufactured in 2001 and later are the ones to be concerned about.
If you had surgery prior to 2001, you're safe.
Double check that w/your doctor, but that's what I was told. I had surgery in '98 and have been given a clean bill of health.

I had hernia surgery in 2003 recalled mesh was used and had nothing but pain and disconfort finally in 2006 had 3rd surgery to correct 2nd surgery where new mesh was used and that doctor told me that the defective mesh was actually attached to my intesines and he had to actually scrape off the old mesh without putting a whole in them.

Please please --- take the time to research other options before putting mesh into your body. These materials are toxic and cause life altering and sometimes deadly complications and should not be used at all, unless there is absolutely no other alternative. I, too, have a massive incisional hernia that needs to be repaired badly, but i'm taking the time to research other options as I just had to have a mesh removed last year and it nearly killed me. I'm serious as I can be. I was in the hospital for nearly 6 wks most of it ICU and this hernia is the end result of that procedure. These meshes cause intense scarring that adheres to your bowels and other organs and, in some cases, can't be removed in it's entirety. Please, take the time to do your homework. you have one body, one life and one wrong decision can change everything forever.

I'm curious to know if I'm in need of a repair. I've receingly started having a very foreign stabbing pain in my upper abdomen where my hernia was repaired. I have also started coughing and I don't have a cold. Coughing and sneezing kills me. Feels like stabbing/tearing. Trying to get into a doctor but it takes forever to get an appointment. Think I may try a hospital if I can't get seen soon. I don't believe it's an emergency but from what I read I guess it could be. has anyone experienced these symptoms? Janett

I have the same feeling when I laugh, cough, sneeze or do anything that jolts me. The dr has said he has never heard of it before and to try pain management. I did and it was of no help. Have you gotten anyone to listen to you yet. I don't know where else to go.

Dont talk stupid the FDA clearly states there were conterfiet meshes and shows pictures, serial numbers and more. You wont get sick unless you get and adhesion from not enough coverage.

The only real defective meshes are 2 part made in the USA they delaminate like proceed gortex. They have 2 layers. Titanium might be the new hope less scaring and very agreeable, it is not a 2 ply it is coated by a molecular process made in Germany.

By the way eating junk food-cokes will make hernias hurt..
