I'm currently talking to them about signing on. How busy are you? How often are home? They seem like one of the better companies. Any advice?

I hear a lot of negative comments about the Rv transport industry and I am sure some of these comments would scare off some who know little about the business. I hear about outrageous insurance, plate costs and travel expenses that aren't accurate or the company is ripping you off. I work for a company that charges me about $700.00 per year for commercial truck plate, insurance is about $400.00 per month. Company supplies me with all my other plates and licensing. I get paid anywhere from $1.50 to $1.60 per loaded mile and during peak season sometimes a little more then that. The company I work for is called Head-N-North Transport Ltd. I have been with them for about 2 years now and must say I am very happy with the business. This is not hard physical work, I get time off whenever I need it and last year received a christmas bonus of $500.00. I had no log book infractions and no accidents, this is the way they reward good drivers like myself. I have talked to drivers from other companies who say they are getting paid such low rates it is no wonder they aren't happy with the job. I think Head-N-North runs only a small fleet but any of the other drivers I run in to seem happy too. By the way, I started with a 2005 Dodge dually 3500 that I paid $28000.00 for. The owners told me that as long as I had a reliable clean looking truck that would be good enough for them. Good luck to all!!!!

I really don't understand all the negative comments through this thread...

I've been crunching the numbers for 2 days and I can not come up with a scenario where you wouldn't NET at least $5k minimum as long as you are driving 5 days a week. Factor in tax write-offs and what not and to me that beats any day-cab job out there hauling automotive components for $17/hr and 12hr days.

Maybe a lot of these guys are losing money because the economics of it don't work if you're using a brand-new $65,000 truck...? That's all I can think of. Or maybe they live too far away; I live only 4 hours drive from Elkhart, IN.

I think you've got to spend no more than $20k on a pickup truck and do preventive maintenance regularly to try and get a lot of miles out of the truck's lifespan.

after all the negatives you have heard and Now an other confirmation you still wish to lose all your investment wow. you should maybe try hot shotting . at leaste you get to be loaded both ways for your trip check out the local transport companies it usually pays 1.30/km both ways do not be fooled by a nice song and dance the only one making money on RV Hauling is the group you haul for about 25 cents per mile. do ypourself a favour and don't start this

Rates are better now than they were in the 90's. Was leased to Morgan and made $.55 for a fifth wheel and $.54 for a travel trailer.

Still not enough though.

There is money to be made in this field as a driver, and the ability to see the country at the same time. Having your own insurance and authority is the key to making good money in this business.

Trail-X Express is a Canadian RV hauling company and we're always looking at hiring leased operators. Email steve@trailx.ca for more information.

Daily Horoscope for June 3

Scorpio

You need a little light relief at the moment and one of the best ways to find it today is to get together with someone who always makes you laugh. You might even want to tell them what's going on in your life at the moment so you can get their perspective on it. This will help to keep your feet on the ground and then you won't feel quite so miserable or beset by problems.
