It is my understanding that the Mayor has been soliciting donations to cover the fireworks display. I would find it interesting to know how much of the $30K is actually from the Mayor's (tax payers) budget. I know of one group that was selling "raffle" tickets and proceeds were to go to the Fireworks show.

Will you please ask the Mayor if this is true and then report back?

Seems to me the Mayor just can't win. If the fireworks event didn't happen there would be all manner of complaints from the citizens of Fort Smith. When he pays for it from his budget, Channel 5 leads the story with, "In spite of a burn ban..." Sheesh. What a thankless job.

I think the point is that the complete cost is not entirely funded by our mayor. give others credit for helping out.

With the mayor position comes a modest stipend for him to spend at his discretion to promote he city. It is, after all a ceremonial position. Tho mayor, like the last one, is electing to appropriate monies towards a fireworks display. It speaks to all demographics and if it keeps morons from taking someone's eye out or house down that is all the better. If you don't like the idea, run for mayor. Until then, mind your manners

I don't disagree. I had read in the paper that the mayor was paying for it from his budget. Didn't know there were others. Who are they so that they can get public recognition?

It doesn't matter what the mayor or anyone else in the city administration does, the group of haters who believe Jonesboro is the site of the next Garden of Eden, will find fault with it.

That is true. They will bash it and then blame Patrick. Didn't you know Patrick is the end-all, be-all to all the problems in the city. Man does that guy have the power!

what a screwed up place this town has become. More city energy spent on the problems of trash service, cats, dogs, the height of grass than trying to find someone to fill the void of a loss of over 7,000 jobs in one year.

Remember the mayor or city hall trying to give us the BS about "those people" killed the 4th of July
fire works to make us feel bad?

And the motto of city offices, A week with out a new code or ordance controling the citizens is a wasted 40 hours....

Fort Smith one time was nice place to live, now it is a joke of a self serving city adminstration
that really is only worried about how many days to retirement. Then thye to can leave this sorry place, with a nice check for the rest of thier life.

I would like to see the mayor do the right thing and postpone the fireworks. He needs to set an example to all that the threat of fire is serious and we all need to respect what is happening elsewhere. We are, after all, the Natural State It's been postponed because of rain. Why not "until rain"?

"Park Hill trash"
You are absolutely right! I grew up here and to think that it has become nothing but a crony city bothers me too. I want it to be a city with the same opportunities for anyone willing to compete and work, not just those who have crony connections.

I really like your "city motto", and it appears to be correct.

But hang in, enjoy your 4th, we will have better days ahead in Fort Smith.

the fourth and fire works. Got a fast car and some time. I think the Casino's at Pocola and Roland going to have some fireworks shows easy to get to and always tons of people watching. How about Hardscrabble or Van Buren always see fireworks over there driving into town on the 4th.

Haven't been to Greenwoods 4th fireworks in a while. The last time I saw it it was the BEST show I have ever seen. Better than Little Rock's River- fest fireworks by far. Easy to see and get to, and out of town. They like people down there.

I think Tri-state raceway mite be having a
fireworks show, Saturday night after the races.

What ever fire works you go to you remember the fire works represent the battles and wars this country has had for freedom. Freedom from over bearing, self centered, people that failed to gain power, but there are pockets of them still trying for thier personal benifit rule it's citizens like peon's. Daily Horoscope for June 18

Sagittarius

It's a great day for mixing and mingling with people you always get on well with, so try not to keep yourself to yourself too much as that would be a real shame on a day when you're feeling so convivial and friendly. Speaking of friends, you'll enjoy spending time with them now, especially if you share some core values.
