Why are the maintenance workers allowed to drive these 3/4 ton 12 passenger vans home for lunch and and park them at home when they go home that night? How much does gas cost for these vans? I would say these workers have a great deal going for them - free gas to and from work and we are paying for it as Bourbon County citizens. One other thing-- does your employer pay for your coffee at work? U234 supplies coffee for their teachers and staff. Coffee is close to $10.00 a container the last time I checked. Add this up.

Most all employers I have worked for purchase the coffee for employees. As for driving the vans, you need to find out a little more information than what you have. If they are going home for lunch and then heading off for work involing the vehicle, that's fine by me. If they need the vehicle early in the morning for school business that's fine too. Don't throw common sense out the window.

What if the worker lives closer to the school then he does to the maintenence building. He or she is actually saving the school district gas money. Rather then driving 25 blocks to get to their car they only drive 10 blocks to get to their house.

Can u also believe the schools supplies toilet paper in the teachers restrooms. The nerve of that employer. How dare they spend coffee and toilet paper money as a perk.

I just did a very rough calculation. If a maintenance person (who is probably on call for after hours emergencies) drives two round trips from home to work, one for going to and from work and one for that dastardly lunch break and assuming that the distance traveled is one mile, they will drive a total of 1000 miles per year. 2 miles and 2 round trips 5 times a week, 50 times a year (they get vacations). So 1000 miles divided by 15 miles per gallon is 67 gallons. I filled up today for $3.69 per gallon so the annual expense is.......hold your breath......take a Xanax.....$246.00. OMG. C'mon Clyde, really????

At the high school, not everyone drinks coffee. Those who do chip in to pay for the coffee.

The school district does not supply coffee. It is purchased from a fund, where those that DRINK coffee pay INTO the fund. I cannot believe a person started a topic about the coffee habits of teachers. Lol. Awwww....Silly Clyde is worried about the coffee teachers drink...how cute is THAT! lol "TEACHERS ARE STEALING THE COFFEE THEY PAID FOR! I'M OUTRAGED!" says silly Clyde.:-)

I'm on call for my job an guess what if I'm driving a company vehicle my time starts when I arrive at the job. If I'm having to drive my personal vehicle to a call out after hours or a call back on my lunch time. My time starts when I receive the phone call. Also just so you know alot of the time I am also doing job related stuff as I'm going to and from work. If you would prefer I leave the vehicle at work drive my person vehicle home then I could return to the office pick up the company vehicle leave and drive back to wherever I needed to go and waste the time doing it your way. An don't say I could use my personal vehicle to do this, the company doesn't want the liability involved with employees using personal equipment on the job. Oh almost forgot the company is great they provides COFFEE,an TEA, year round and when it gets cold they even have HOT COCO for us.

They have to have their trucks with them if a call comes in, dinnertime or not! And they have to stay familiar with riadscand streets so they can get to service when fires ar accidents happen . Just like getting ugly lines from gripe in! You all do a great job! Thank you!

I don't see why the coffee for teachers matters but, if you are so worried, I will purchace a can of Coffee and drop it off at the school. Providing a can of coffee is nothing. They (teachers) don't make as much money as you would think they deserve. They also are on vacation when our children are. They do spend all day working with 18-23 students per 47 minutes for 9 hours a day, 5 days a week. Those that agree with me could do the same.....

I appreciate you saying you would buy a teacher coffee. I have purchased coffe for myself as a teacher since I arrived at the schools here? Uniontown does pay for its teachers coffee but Ft Scott does not. Uniontown gets double the money per child as Ft Scott. They can afford to.

You might want to go by the School Board Office and check what these poor teachers make most of them make way more than you think some make more than 60k per year. The National avg for teachers in the US is around 42K the average here is 58k. Dont let people fool you these teachers make plenty of money!

I don't think any teachers at used 234 make that much as a top salary. The average is much lower. Get your facts straight DA? Some may make more because they take on coaching, driving busses etc. Try driving a bus. That is a job that few will do.

Who would want to drive a bus! Some of the current bus drivers are complete buttheads. They make the kids stand out in the rain and stare at their watch until its straight up time to let them on. They are always late getting to the bus stops. They swear at the teachers infront of the children and are complete jerks. Their boss at the board office is to busy hanging out at K&K instead of handling complaints from school staff. Things will never change as long as this is allowed to happen. Most of the complaints never make it any farther than his office. Usd234 teacher wrote: <quoted text> It is a matter of public record.
