Spain argues the entire treasure belongs to Spain because it came from a sunken naval ship, and under the often confusing law of the sea, the country never abandoned it.
Of course the Spanish government isn't trying to claim the treasure out of pure greed. They simply want to get their hands on it so they can return it to the descendants of the Incas and other Native Americans from whom they stole it in the first place. Hahahahaha.

Some of the money from treasure ships should go to the South American natives whose ancestors mined that gold. Perhaps land could be bought to protect the remaining natives and allow them to live undisturbed.
I don't see why Spain should benefit from ill-gotten gains.

That treasure must be returned to the aboriginal people of Peru and Bolivia and all who had suffered the genocide slaughtering by the spanish government in the name of the lord.

Finder Keepers. Astounding that Spain would embarrass itself by asking back anything derived from the theft of a 3rd Party...ethic peoples of South America. If Spain wins, it will set a precedent so that should any Nazi loot is discovered with great value then the German government can start claiming it too. The world is a crazy place.
