State college system has potential

ISSUE: Legislators create a state college system. A bachelor's degree via a community college may not be the norm, but it could soon lead to more students earning four-year degrees in Florida.

The Sun Sentinel is correct in warning that lower tuition usually means lower standards. If these "colleges" start competing for students, it is a certainty that lower standards will follow, because full employment for the faculty and staff will become more important than a quality education. There are many existence theorems already in place. The question is how diligent will the state be in controlling the quality to standards.

Think of how many University of Phoenix students will be able to upgrade to state college. There is two sides to every story.

Sorry Local Guy, but...There are (not "is") two sides to every story. Don't worry. English wasn't my strong suit either but then again, I graduated from a university not a college.
The state is cutting back on money for its universities because it says it has none, so where will it find money to fund these additional programs at the colleges?

Money is another subject all together.

Yes, as soon as I posted my comment I realized the word "are" should have been used. I also graduated from a university, wise ass. Should I have hyphenated "wise ass"?
