Parts of Ider were hit. There is no power, and very conflicting reports from 3-5 to 30-45 days before all power restored. Cell phone service.is very sketchy. In my community, High Point, Mrs. Hairston passes, the Ferguson family, except their 5 yr old and 12 y/o, Mr. Ity, confirmed dead. There was also a couple with a small daughter, the daughter survived but her patents didn't.

I am trying to find information about the town of Powell. I have been trying to get a hold of my Granny since Wednesday and want to make sure the family is okay. Does anyone know if the power or phone lines are just down? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

We live in Ider on the Flat Rock/Ider line. There is heavy damage to trees and power lines and many homes with damage from trees. On Hwy 117 which runs from Hammondville, thru the Ider 4 way stop and the Flat Rock 4-way stop and on to Stevenson and Bridgeport is littered with damages of all sorts. Some places on 117 seem to be almost untouched and others like a warzone. The parts of Flat rock most severely hit seem to be in North Sand Mountain which is located on and around hwy 71 North of Flat Rock creek and the Flat Rock 4-way stop (corner of Hwy 71 and Hwy 117). continuing South towards Ider on 117 the power lines are down and poles snapped and trees thru houses and such but I don't believe many or any fatalities between the flat rock and Ider 4-way stops on 117. Thru the Ider 4-way on 117 towards Hammondville it really gets horrific. Brick homes leveled, trees sheered off 3 feet from the ground and several places where only the slab left where a house or mobile home once was. It is absolutely incredible and too devasting to imagine. I have footage of the largest tornado going past and of the worst damage we encountered on our way off the mountain but have yet to upload it. i hope this helps some people understand which parts of Ider and Flat Rock are the most affected, Everyone seems to be affected to some degree just due to the power lines being down. It's hard to explain just how many trees are down and how large a lot of them are. We have ATT cell service and we were able to make calls out of Ider after the last storm. I have also been able to call someone in Ider thats on Verizon but don't know about the rest.

Higdon is the nearest town and their mailing address, but probably only 200 yards from the Georgian state line where the name changes to Michael Road.

The phone lines are down. Farmerstel was working on them between storms but I don't think they have made much if any progress. much of Rainesville is ok but some areas are hit really hard. I know that on Hwy 35 which runs from Rainesville to Fort payne has some heavy damage this includes the Civic center, Plainview high school, a car lot, catfish restaurant and some small businesses and a completely devastated Huddle House. I'm afraid the neighborhood off 35 and behind the Huddle House is hardest hit but can't confirm this at all.
