Those who study history will get it from more than one source, when the only source is the Mormon Church spokesperson then proceed with caution.

Reading the article in the Mormon Times it appears that Dr. Black did not intend it to be a full history of the Nauvoo era of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. For more in depth information on the topic you could see one of her books: Joseph Smith: Praise to the Man (with John Telford), Joseph, Exploring the Life and Ministry of the Prophet (with Andrew Skinner), Setting the Record Straight: Emma Smith: An Elect Lady, Setting the Record Straight: Joseph Smith, the Mormon Prophet, Son of Man, Vol. 1: The Early Years (Liz Lemon Swindle), The A to Z of Church History and Doctrine and Covenants[2], and Who's Who in the Doctrine and Covenants.

The entire point of my comment on this topic was it is always best to use more than one source for one's information. It appears that [Arza Judd] only wants one, that being the Mormon Church. I met and talked with Dr. Susan Easton Black inside a furniture store in Nauvoo, IL while she and her husband were shopping for a mattress. She is a very nice and friendly woman, but that doesn't make her correct on each and every topic. Many Mormons and non-Mormons visit the Nauvoo Historical Society each year and learn the time line of Nauvoo's history. Mormon history to use your words "set the record straight" has had its record changed, altered or deleted over the years.
All people should want to know truth. http://www.MormonOutreach.org |
