I am searching for fellow drills from the 10th and 48th INF BN that served on the trail from 95 to 97. I was known as 'That Loud Mouth Bald Headed Drill Sergeant" to most, and one of the youngest (rank/age) to serve at that time.

i was a 3rd platoon road dawg in bravo 1/48 and drill sgt marr was an awesum drill. he always acted in a professional mannor. he took our trainning very serious and i learned alot from him. when i read the article i knew exactly which drill he was referring to. basic is heard enough on soldiers coming into the military the last thing we needed was worrying about the drill sgt jerking us up.

My son is in 1-48 and is catching hell. Until this article came to my desk I was not too concerned. I was lucky back in '83 my drills were professional and seemed to want you to learn as much as possible to be a good soldier. They cussed but not 24/7. They taught us to work together to over come obsticles whenever possible. Where was the Chaplain when the Drill was cussing in the Chapel? Why was this drill not being counseled for excieve anger? Basic should be high stress and fast paced learning but screaming at a future soldier only teaches that the NCO does not know how to lead nor train.

A friend of my son came over and talked about the Ft Leonard Wood Drills in his basic (summer 2008) encouraging Ultimate style fighting in the barracks after lights out. If someone was hurt they were told that they rolled out of their bunks or slipped climbing into the back of a truck. They thought it would weed out the soldier who could no cope with combat conditions. The trainees did not report this as they thought this was a part of Basic. I informed the young private that it was not a part of basic, it was actually abuse and he should not assume that his drills nor the Company Commander were an example of Leadership. Soldiers learn to follow through respect and loyalty not fear.

OK THE TRAINEE ABUSE THAT WAS SPOKE OF IN THE WRITE UP IN THE SPRINGFIELD PAPER BY DRILL SERGEANT DAVID MARR, HAS BEEN PROVEN TRUE. THE INVESTIGATION WAS COMPLETED AND EVERYTHING HE STATED IN THE LETTER WAS PROVEN TRUE THROUGH A THOROUGH INTERNAL INVESTIGATION AT FORT LEONARD WOOD. SO ALL THAT ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THIS TYPE OF TREATMENT SHOULD BE. THE CONSEQUENCE FOR THE DRILLS THAT COMMITED THE OFFENSES WERE A CLASS ON USING PROFANE LANGUAGE IN THE TRAINING ENVIRONMENT...IS THIS JUSTICE FOR THE MOTHERS AND FATHERS OF THE CHILDREN THAT WERE ABUSED?????

UNFORTUNATELY THE WILLINGNESS TO MINIMIZE THIS LEVEL OF ABUSE WILL KEEP THE COMPLETE TRUTH FROM BEING AVAILABLE. FREE CHICKEN GOES A LONG WAY.

Wow. It seems as if someone who actually adheres to the rules always gets the shaft up the bum. It's such a shame the bs that goes on in the armed forces, esp. what i've heard of a good majority of drill sergeants. And then the rapings of women in the military that is brushed under the cover. And then they flunk you because you did what you should have done. ...If you say something, you are condemned as a snitch and get hell for it. Then the morons who should have to pay make up some fallacious crap to try and cover their own asses. I pray that one day the truth will reveal itself. And if the feds don't do anything, then the public will uproar. We live in a democracy. This is not a dick-tatorship.

I do not choose to take away from the forum regarding the misuse of language, however my intent here to track down individuals that recall other incidents regarding sexual misconduct. I was close to many of the Drills that were alleged to have committed inappropriate acts. Is there anyone out there that recalls these matters?

I knew some really good Sgts when I was in basic & AIT. But I also Knew some who Desprately NEEDED THERE ASS KICKED! The SGTS who abuse there power & Authority are usually the same guys who would SHIT Themself if they were ever confronted when not in uniform standing over a new Recruit. These are the Sgts that I would gladly chalenge anytime to an off the record behind the building BRAWL! Just to teach them a lesson on how they are NOT EVEN A MAN!

It showed who could handle minimul stress and who could not. Hell, how can handle a gunfight, if you cannot handle being called a few names.

Drill Sgts are the trash of the Army. Some are OK people, but most are Miserable J#$ks on a power trip and just get off on abusing people who can`t fight back. They become a DS to hide out from having to really serve. If they were truely brave they wouldn`t need to hide behind a DS hat and yell at newbie Privates. I challenge anyone of them who thinks they are tough to look me up and I will treat them the same way they Abuse others because of their title and rank! Step Up and take the challenge!

My father was a drill S/gt at Ft. Leonard Wood during the 60's and he was not trash. I deeply resent your general comment concerning drill s/gts. My father fought in World War 11 just so you could call yourself an American. My father is dead now but I will defend him and others like him until the end. Ft. Leonard Wood was the largest and still is the best training center for the Army. I am an Army brat and proud of it.

I see Karin can`t read! As maxx said some are OK, but Most DS`s are Spineless cowards hiding out on a Power Trip! They are the ones like most Recruiters, who are so afraid of combat, that they hide out in these jobs, so they don`t really have to serve! Again there are some who just truely want to help train others and are good men! Most DS`s are as he said miserable jerks on a power trip and sorry excuses for men! Let them come and try out my MOS if they want a real challenge!

MOST Drills are DA Select and did not have a choice to become a drill sergeant. This is not a duty for everyone and most would glady stay in the operational Army. If you have not been a drill or even in the Army or a family member why do you care? Sleep well at night knowing some 18 year old is going to be protecting your sorry old asses and that he or she is getting some of the best training that a underfunded/understaffed Army can provide.

I gotta say this loser was always last into a house or BP. And all that bravado he had during BT was gone quick like.

I could not have said it better. Actually, my dad taught trainees how to shoot their weapon years ago when I was a child and my brother and myself and dad would go out to TA235 and crawl around under the barbed wire and just do stuff like kids would do. There were many NCO parties for families out at this training site and I have many fond memories of it. I see you are writing from Warrensburg. I graduated from the University there and have a friend that works there still.
