Has anyone heard anymore? It seems to have gone silent about any updates or any new cases of meningitis at the base. All this bickering will not do anything for our loved ones there. Our focus needs to be concentrated on praying for guys and girls there. It is easy to be upset with one another with restricted access to the ones we care most about. Has anyone talked to someone at base? My guys have been out in the field so I have been unable to communicate with them. Just looking for updates.

There are no more cases. There were only 2 on base and regretfully those 2 died. There has been everyone from IG, Industrial Hygiene, Preventive Medicine, CDC, and the entire Chain of Command come through the barracks where those 2 Soldiers came from. None of these organizations could come up with any conclusive reason as to why these Soldiers got sick. It is sad that these things happen but there has been such a backlash even with no evidence for why they got sick that the units that are involved have had training severly disrupted. There are not updates to it because there has been no change since the second of the 2 Soldiers passed.

Would you be so kind as to give me your boyfriends name or at least which unit he is in so we can investigate why he would be telling you stories like this?

Has anyone talked to their loved ones that in basic the last two weeks. My guys have been in the field last week and are due to graduate in a week. They thought they would get their phones when they got back on Tuesday, but I am assuming that didn't happen as I haven't heard from either my son or my husband. They had said I would receive information about the graduation in the mail a few weeks prior, but have not received anything. All I have to go on is the web site for the information for graduation and what they have told over the phone and letters so far. I know that a lot of disruption transpired due to the meningitis cases, but was wondering also if anyone else had received information on the graduation on Thursday other than what is on the general web site for the graduations as I will have my daughter and her son, my son that is graduating - his girlfriend, and my 8 year old son traveling.

All i have to say is, Haley, you are an idiot. There have been 2 with meningitis and those 2 died from it. No one else has had it. You are the reason people get paranoid.

I'm worried? My husband is in Fort Leonard Wood right now. He has a cough too, could that be what it is? If so, what is it?

Well, I finally heard from my son, all is well. He sounds a lot better. They got in from the field without problems, made it through everything. He is very proud! They stated to him, no longer a trainy, but a real soldier now! His cold has finally gone away and he is no longer hoarse and I can recognize him when I talk to him on the phone. With that many people couped up together they end up passing it back and forth, just like school. He sounds good. He stated his dad was well too although I have not spoken to him since before they went to field exercises, but my son saw him at church and all was well. I still have not received anything in the mail from Ft. Leonard Wood about their graduation on Thursday, but my son assures me that all is as planned per the web site as I was worried they might have gotten behind due to CDC coming out to base and everyone's training getting disrupted. Glad to know all is still on track.

I am a mom of a new soldier in FLW. Now into his first reception/basic. I fully trust FLW base to care for my kid. In cases of meningitis those can be contained. I work for a major hospital in our city and don't find that to be a worried part of my end as a Military Momma~! Yes, I am guilty of coddling my kids. When my son left me I told him that the Army would do the job I wasn't able to do. Make him Strong. As one day if he is in another country defending our Americans and helping others I so want him to be prepared, proud and able to do his job and come home alive. That was the sacrifice he made in wanting to sign up. What has me to this day since he has been gone upset, is the Recruiter. They wear a Military uniform and granted they may have earned that right, however they have not earned the right to stand behind that uniform and LIE. I was dismayed, hurt and shocked about what has happened just in the time my son left to the time he arrived at FLW. Although all recruiters might not lie. I cannot judge each and every man or woman in that job catagory however the one I met has lied. He is a Liar in a Military uniform. That upsets me as there are better soldiers and to me that man is an insult to them. How he can stand and be Proud is beyond me, but rest assure I stand behind everyone of those kids at that base. I respect their DS's even though the kids don't like them at times or trust them. They have a job to do and I am sure they do it well. In our world the way it is I can fully understand it is rough on us Mothers and Fathers etc. But behind every soldier is another famiy member standing Proud. I am Proud of my Pvt. Even if he has been told to drop and give 100.
