The cost of running "free public libraries" increases every year. Computers have been added and this has made the Library more active. Government can't do it alone.

The million dollar library is practically USELESS because of the Internet. There should be more CUTS in their funding and dollara put to better use in the community. Plus, a lot of lazy, arrogant people work there.

I disagree: Libraries are wonderful places of higher learning; the joy of reading an actual paper book should NEVER be totally replaced by the Internet; not everyone has access to the Internet, nor can afford to buy a Kindle, etc.; plus, there are a lot of arrogant, hard-to-handle patrons who frequent libraries.

I've been on both sides of a library as a patron and well - you have to be arrogant to fit in with the culture. I suppose it isn't fair to punish the public because of that. One day though their funding could become a big issue. Why aren't they open 24/7 like some stores if they are so IMPORTANT to those who don't have access to paperbacks, internet and the kindel. Maybe people who don't have a place to live can spend the night there - you know it's about having access to stuff - that includes the bathroom doesn't it, or a chair and a table to nap on. Felis74 said 'Libraries are wonderful places...' and good places to access a free babysitter for children after school. ACCESS!

Common sense in this economy something might have to given up. Area Libraries should flex hours so there is a library building in the region on Saturday and another on Sunday. SHARED SERVICES is the way to go in government today. So lets say once a month Saturday in Passaic, another week in Paterson, another in Wayne, the next in Clifton. This would allow access and at the same time live within budgets. After school and evenings seem busy for school students. They should remain intact. Donations to the local Library will also help--so get out your checkbook and chip in. If you really love your Library now is the time to help.

Now were talking!!! Think outside of the box. Every Library has computers today but the use grows everyday. Some economic reasons have made the numbers grow in the last three years. So Sunday afternoon at the big Library in Passaic is good and make the Clifton one Saturday, and then the Wayne Library Sunday and the Paterson Library Saturday. Don't forget the MSU Library is open to many College Students and there is also the smaller ones in Totowa, LittleFalls and Woodland Park. All makes sense but Government sometimes is slow in learning what the real world is doing in business for years. Get to it!

I like the hours in Paterson libraries and feel that they should be remain as they are. Additionally, the Paterson Free Public Library has a GREAT staff, (especially in the Danforth Branch).

But if all can't stay open because of the economic mess we are in we need to do our best in making sure we know of hours elsewhere.

I hear and understand you, but the Main Branch in Paterson,(which is near City Hall), will never close, and I, for one, am not going to another city just to use the library.

Daily Horoscope for May 19

Cancer

Try to get out and about today because it will do you good to have a change of scene. Even you, a home-loving Cancerian, can start to feel stale and bored if you're stuck in one place for too long, so try to vary your surroundings as much as possible today. Social events will go well, too, and you'll enjoy talking to people who make you think.
