Redesign: Bold new look aimed at helping readers
Full Story: South Florida Sun-Sentinel

when will the forum and jewish journals go on line?

Why doesn't the Sun-Sentinel just change its name to the New York Post and start publishing in tabloid form with really cheesy block headlines? Seriously, the decline in quality of this paper since I started reading it a few years ago has been something else. The Sun-Sentinel should be glad I get their subscription as a gift, or else I would have dropped my subscription and signed onto the Palm Beach Post a long time ago.

I thought the new BOLD design funky. And too the cost to the paper thanks to the amount of ink applied increases. Was that considering when designing?
They say the papers are suffering dollar-wise so I would think that would have been taken into consideration. Just food for thought. |

Love the new look, but HATE the new font style. much more difficult to read. should have opened it up more, not tightened it up.

I don't like anything about the "new look". I have had home delivery for probably 25 years & am very unhappy with this change.
Doesn't the new logo look like the one "Syndrom" used in The Incrediables?
Who decided it was 'bold'?
I give this paper 3 years before it closes its doors forever. |

Your redesign need a BIG tweeking....Type on headlines is way oversized to copy block....The large headlines are OK but some of them have very small "thickness" of the font lines gets lost in the white space....Lots of white space between storys..I feel I am not getting my monies worth compared to old style...and my last gripe is the playing card size of the section letters on covers.....much to large...it just dones't flow like your last design....close.. but please rethink it

Dear Mr. Maucker:
We respect your desire to enhance the look of the Sun-Sentinel, but the font you have selected is, in my opinion, very ugly. It gives the articles a "must have happened in the 19th century" look. With so many exciting contemporary, yet classic, fonts. why this one? I know there are lots more important things to discuss in today's world -- but this font makes reading about them less of an incentive. |

If I wanted visuals, I'd go on the Net. I'm canceling my subscription.
I'm glad I don't live in Fort Lauderdale and have to look at this every day on a sales rack because there is no way I would subscribe in a million years.
"Different" definitely is not better in this case. Newspapers continue to push away readers with stupid ideas or boring content. Add "ugly" to the list and the Sun-Sentinel will be right there in the mix. I can get it for free online. Why subscribe or buy it? |

Mr. Kent-their using Superman's logo. Does this mean Perry White will be replacing Earl? Great Caesar's Ghost!!!!
Next redesign is a name change to The Daily Planet..... |
They need more stories on the challenges and hate that gay and transgendered people must face each day.
Regarding Earl's ramblings, I think of a line from Beavis and Butt-head: "Switch on the safety, Earl." Spare us any more idiocy; next time, just don't write, Earl.
Goodbye, Earl. |

How depressing that the management at once-great newspapers like the Sun-Sentinel think they can make up for dwindling staffs by filling news hole with giant ads, giant photos, giant fonts, short news blips on the front page and way too much white space. Note to management: your readers are not stupid. They know when you're slacking. We once turned to the print product for real, in-depth news. If we wanted tabloid gossip or superficial reporting, we'd watch more TV news and read entertainment Web sites. Please, please, please bring back the newspaper format loyal readers appreciate and young journalists dream of writing in. We all know the newspaper industry is changing and adjustments are needed, but don't sacrifice quality or the final product will bite you in the ass someday soon.

My first impression of the new redesign was that it looked like a comic book, not a newspaper. It's like you've dumbed it down for the folks who need color and flash to get their attention, limited though it is. It also reminds me of USA Today (which I hate!) and the huge fonts and gigantic ads make it look like the Hallandale Digest.
I'll be cancelling my home subscription along with the others who commented above me. You really blew it this time. |

Pleeze.
The big pictures disguise the fact that you have no stories. Five inches here. Five inches there. Sound and fury signifying nothing. The tabloid style headlines would be okay if you had imaginative headline writers. There is absolutely nothing to read and no information I haven't read or seen on TV. The Sun-Sentinel is worth what I pay for it online -- nothing! |
This paper is run by dunces. People buy a paper to read the news. Not to look at the pretty graphics. And why do you raise the price when circulation is falling? I stopped buying the Sunday Dade edition, when you increased from .50 to $1.00.
In the new SunSentinel Monday edition, I miss the Veterinary column.
Hopefully we will get it back. |

WOW for a place I use to work - I am hardly even honored to claim it on my resume anymore.
So sad how they pushed out quality artists like myself for a bunch of underpaid, just out of school hacks who think quality design work is large type and bright colors that look like they belong in a kindergarden classroom. That's what they get for letting Chicago idiots run the show. great job at ONCE AGAIN screwing up our paper Tribune Company. You guys can bite my shiny metal you know what.... |
