Ms. Richter new when she moved the rules and regulations on what is and is not allowed. She cannot compare season's decorations with a religious ornament depicting her religions affiliations. If the Condo allows Jewish to display mezuzahs on the door in violation of the rules then Catholics can display a cross or effigies of the virgin Mary or the patrons of their choice as well. The doors would look like shrines or altars. Season ornaments are hung for a few weeks and then are gone. Mezuzahs are a 24/7, 365 days display. Any person with enough common sense knows that they are not the same. Please Ms Richter pick another fight. One that doesn’t make Jewish look like "rules and regulations don't applied to them." I hope your lawyer will talk some sense.

Most people walking past this resident's door would not even see the mezuzah. Religion is not the source of hatred and strife in the world. Attorneys are!!!!

Anything affixed to the outer door on a PERMANENT basis is what the condo really means. Christmas wreaths are only up for a few weeks at the most, then taken down after the holidays. They should stipulate that in the rules.

Simle minds are easily amused. Her's a thought...put it up inside the door. Juat remember that when you live in a condo you do NOT live in a democracy. The condo commandos will keep you down and trample any common sense right you think you might have. It is their job in life. CONDO COMMANDO---SOMEONE WHO IS MISERABLE AND WHOSE JOB IT IS TO MAKE OTHERS MISERABLE. The saying misery loves company was first spoken by a condo commando. I wonder if the early cave man had these problems with their caves.

Mezuzah... From what I read here there's apparently quite a few of them about. Yet, I have never seen or noticed one. So I can't imagine the sight of one can be that obnoxious that it would jump out at you.

In the 60s I grew up in a neighborhood with a combination of professionals, blue collar workers, blacks, whites, and even a few gay couples. Everyone got along. Then I moved to Florida, and it's one racial/ethnic crisis after another. Rodney King was right when he asked, "Can't we all just get along?"

I think the Condo Management should find something else to do rather than attempt to deny the Right of Free Expression and Religeous Belief. Hitler and his thugs were defeated in 1945. It now appears that a new group of idiots are emerging. We can label them the CONDO COMMANDO RELIGION GHESTAPPO! This is how it all began in Germany back in 1938. The condo concerned should be ashamed of itself and issue an immediate apology to the unit renter.

if you allow wreaths, you should allow mezuzahs, and anything else that a tennants religous affiliation deems required to hang on a door. I know of some hatians in my complex that practice voodoo, they hang a goats head on the door and no one complains.

These condo boards are out of control in trying to control people. They have nothing better to do then nit pick and spread rumours. Who the hell cares if this woman has a symbol on her door or chooses to wear a turbin down to the swimming pool, or run around in her apartment naked. There is such a thing as individual choice in this country and she is not crossing the line where her choices are doing her neighbors harm.

I think this is ridiculous. The object is a few inches long. I live in, and am the President of our Assoc. which is very strict. We have a jewish lesbian couple with a mezuzah on their doorway. Our Board met to discuss it and it was unanimous that although our by-laws say NO - it is also their home - which they paid over 500K for. We all can live in peace. Maybe

I’m not Jewish, but I married into a Jewish family and have great respect for their traditions. There is a mezuzah on our door frame.
The condo association does have the right to pass rules on adornments on doors and door frames, but they must enforce those rules equally on everyone—including wreaths at Xmas time. Selective enforcement of the rules is a de facto form of discrimination and that is unacceptable.
Perhaps this association needs to revisit this rule they have about decorating doors. If they are unwilling to do so they should be prepared for legal consequences as I suspect they have allowed Xmas wreaths on doors for many years.
On the other hand, Richter should have read the bylaws before she moved in and decided if they were rules should could live with.
I say let her hang her mezuzah. I cannot believe there are not enough commiserative Gentiles in this condo association to enable this.

It ain't just Fla folks. And here's proof that absent legislations it is legal to ban such symbols:
Chicago Sun-Times, Apr 13, 2006 by Tracy Swartz
SPRINGFIELD -- Gov. Blagojevich signed into law Wednesday a bill permitting condominium owners to display religious symbols on their doors.
State Sen. Ira Silverstein (D-Chicago) proposed the legislation after a Chicago condo association removed a Jewish symbol from a resident's door post.
Lynne Bloch said she was devastated to come home after her husband's funeral to find gone her mezuzah, a decorative case containing Jewish parchment scrolls.
"You can't live in a home if you do not have a mezuzah on the door post," Bloch said. "It was just a horrible experience."
The Shoreline Towers Condominium Association, 6301 N. Sheridan, prohibits decorations on doors and in hallways. Since 2004, Bloch has been fighting these regulations, though the association recently relaxed its rules to accommodate religious practices.

The Chicago City Council adopted a change to an ordinance to allow such displays, and the General Assembly unanimously approved similar legislation. The law takes effect Jan. 1.
"It was really unfortunate I had to bring this bill in front of the General Assembly because I thought this was protected under the First Amendment," Silverstein said.

This Condo association board must be comprised of the most miserable people on the face of the earth..This is not the bible belt and Im sure they would even allow a tiny non evasive mezuzah. This condos values(plummet) whether Jewish, Christian, Gay, Black, Latin or any thinking person would not buy in this community. The Port should be renamed the Loonie Bin Condo. Good for this brave young woman telling them where to stick their hypocritical unrealistic values ..These board members need a padded room.
