Many shoppers are buying more from the discounted stores than the expensive, upscale stores. For example, Kohl's is doing a great business. It is packed everyday and the line is around the store. People are shopping at Marshall's, TJ Maxx, etc. The economy is bad and people are shopping to get more for the dollar!!!!! I don't think we have seen the end of upscale stores closing. They are building more Targets and Walmarts!

What is the difference between a JAP and a vulture?
Nail Polish!
I here by apologize to all of the Jewish faith every where!(But it was funny, no?)
What's the difference between a JAP and a Chonga(latina princess)?

With the Chonga, the orgasm is real and the jewelry is fake.

With the JAP, the orgasm is fake and the jewelry is real.

This is an excellent opportunity for the mall to continue on their new image. Saks has always had a poor selection and was not even close to the other locations they have in South Florida- of course it didn't meet their expectations. Now is the perfect time to encourage retailers like a Nordstrom (it would be the only location in Broward) or a large Crate & Barrel w/furniture (only one in Broward). The mall has done an excellent job at catering a new stores and selection not to mention the new environment- keep up the good work!

When this store had it's grand re-opening in August of 1980 or 1981, I was living with a flight attendent who won a $10,000 shopping spree there. She bought a mink coat and a pair of nylons. Way to go babe!
Very classy.

I cannot justify spending the extra dollars on 7-diamond escorts.

I know settle for 4-stars.

And I invest the difference.

While there may be a significant portion of the population shopping at TJ Maxx or Kohl's, I hardly think the average Saks or Neiman Marcus customer is shopping at discount retailers...

But I must say that out of all the times I went to the Galleria and Saks, I found the Saks store to lack in merchandise selection. Something else I noticed was the lack of traffic in that store whereas Neiman Marcus always has more traffic... That's what I gather from the times I visit the stores.

exactly! all those who were cursing the snowbirds and tourists shouldn't be surprised. of course, they are too dim to even realize how bad this is for the area. all the high end leaving to be replaced with crap. i hope this is an isolated incident and the way the area is headed.

blah..blah..blah. the reality is gas prices, falling market prices of houses, incleased taxes, and insurance cost for homes are driving people to tighten up their spending. Lord and Taylor also closed their Plantation store in Broward county years ago at the Galleria mall. Macys never reopened it stoe at the fashion amll after hurricane Willma. What i find unbelievabl, is that Saks at the Galleria Malll employed employed 61 people.
i highly doubt the extra $20-$30 in extra gas expenses per week have scared away Saks customers. the corp person stated it wasn't perfoming well for a long time. maybe the mall should have tried to change their mind with some kind of upgrade.

although i didn't shop there often as it was expensive, it's seems a bad indication that there are fewer well-off folks around to support it.

LOL, clearly you weren't the demographic anyway.

But just b/c you didn't shop there, it still matters WHY they are closing. if it's due to the economy in the area, that is bad for you. All types of stores HIRE people to work there.....right!?

The caps were intentional! No snowbirds to pay 3000k for the condo next to you for which you pay 500.00 thanks to soh.You got what you wanted.
please stay, you can still shop at Neiman Marcus and enjoy a nice soup/sandwich at the Mermaid. not all of us are as stupid as DAS. We know exactly what snowbirds and tourists do for the economy. He's just some old misanthrope. Pay no attention to him.

Saks is actually an old store brand. It's aging and nobody really shops there anymore. You think Galleria is the only one that is hurting? Sure Palm Beach is fine...that's because all the 80 year olds shop up there.
Nordstrom's is more hip and more popular. But...do you really think another anchor store will do good there? Department stores are kind of old school. The Macy's is really nice..so why go elsewhere? Maybe stores like Crate & Barrell or go 'mid-price' or discount like Khol's. That wing is so dead it's sad. That mall really has done a lot to look nice and has the BEST food court in ANY mall in the US.
Maybe a movie theater in one of the old stores? We don't have a nice one out east. The Regal on Cypress Creek is horrible.
www.ftltoday.com
i was actually just at the Palm Beach Saks, the whole area was buzzing with young people along with the old. stereotypes aren't always accurate. i think the Galleria store certainly catered to older folks, but there is no reason Saks can't attract younger people. Nord's is no more special, they just decorate and market the store better (perhaps).
i like the regal cypress creek theater, it's too bad it is completely over run with the skankiest looking people. i always think i'm jeopardizing my life, i rarely go there. where do they come from anyway???
