The box was probably pushed down into the sidewalk by one of the many delivery trucks that pull-up on the sidewalks to make their deliveries. In any event, people need to watch where they are walking. Seems these days that no one is responsible for their own clumsiness and neglect. The city's great legal department would rather pay than fight. After-all, the city attorney's pay is the same, win or lose. Nice job if you can get it. Hmm!

Fort Lauderdale settles lawsuit with widow of tourist

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.- Fort Lauderdale city commissioners have agreed to pay $97,000 to a Canadian tourist whose husband died after tripping on an uncovered water meter in the sidewalk.

Gilles Massey and his wife were walking back to their hotel from the beach in March 2005 when he tripped and fell. The 65-year-old man fractured his right knee and was flown by air ambulance to Canada for surgery. A week later, he died from complications.

Massey's widow, Gisele St-Arneault, sued the city for negligence in 2007.

St-Arneault's attorney Kelly Hancock says her client "lost her husband, which is an extremely sad case, but under the circumstances it was fair for both sides."

OK, so an injured man travels 1500 miles back to his hospital and because of a medical malpractice tragedy in Canada, the city pays!!!!

HOLY COW.. this is unreal. if anything Canad should have been sued but they probably have laws in place that don't allow that.

so we need a volunteer to go to Canada, gfall down and come back here and then send a lawyer up there to suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
