He is a friend of the family. He was on his way to pick up an uncle at the airport, he's a star athlete, and not the typical 16 year old partying out late at night. Don't assume the worst. Right now, the only thing we know is that he was on the way to the airport to pick up his uncle, who had called and said he had landed. He dropped his phone and was looking for it when he lost control. Please, again, dont assume the worst and just pray for his family and friends.

Good for you Michelle - people on these posts really need to NOT make snap judgements, and keep in mind, these are not just news stories, these are people who have family and friends that are hurt by this kind of thing. I truly hope this young man heals well

Sorry Michelle.. But what kind of lazy parents don't go out and get their own family member from the airport? EVERYONE knows that the hour this kid was out is PRIME TIME for drunk drivers..sorry but I am not that LAZY that I couldn't get out of bed..and what kind of family member needs to be picked up at 5:30AM???

Sorry for the parents..but it still goes back to parental judgement and responsibility..

The "official" mindset for fully understanding and benefitting from my idea is to NOT get in, on, or near a AUTO VEHICLE.
The people who have been killed and injured in all of the crashes that we read about all the time in the news would NOT, I repeat would NOT, have been hurt if they had followed that mindset.

Yeah, and stay away from breakfast, too. I hear that 9 out of 10 people who die had breakfast that same morning. Eery, isn't it?
Just a thought

Hopefully he has a quick and speedy recovery. Just like the article says, "it was an accident." Accidents happen!

Well considering he was driving a 1997 Ford Explorer didn't help in the crash, I wonder if it still had Firestone tires on it?(Well you never know).

My prayers go out to his family and friends and I hope that he makes a guick recovery and goes on to live a wonderful & happy life.

First of all where was the curfew and Second 5:30 in the morning?
Like I tell my daughter in Catholic School there are two types of kids
Ones that deserve to be there and others whose parents can pay the bill...
Just had my daughter invited to a "Party" at her Catholic HIgh School..called the parents to find out if there would be supervision, dad said absolutely ..My husband asked about drinking...FATHER's COMMENT: Well I prefer if they drink at my house then out..Told my daugher FORGETABOUTIT you are not going..end result..Freshman student passed out at drunk at this SUPERVISED PARTY...
You absolute MORON!! This kid is such a productive addition to society that he wakes up early on a Sunday morning to do a favor for a family member. DON'T ASSUME.

Not in Florida!
Remember, this is the state that gave us our president, wasted time over Terry Shaivo, has an outstanding public school system, fair property taxes and wonderful, respectful, and careful drivers on I 95

I didnt mean to get people to argue with me about the situation he was in, I'm just asking that people not automatically think the worst just because he is 16 years old. Instead of asking how lazy the parents are, why not ask how rsponsible of him for offering to go at that hour, considering he IS 16 and probably wants to sleep in on a sunday morning? It's not my reponsibility to sit here and try and justify the situation, but I'm sure at one point or another everyone commenting on here has had to be out driving at that hour, and as the article said, it was a one car crash.

Another incident involving a stupid kid, but it's not terrible at all. He probably deserved it.
