dude! u know a little too much about this delicate flower. what was so r rated about her video on youtube? the last time i checked youtube, those types of videos were not allowed. maybe i am green. However, the bottom line is that she was a child dude. A child. Maybe if you would stop watching those children on youtube you would see that and not overlook that fact. All I care about is the fact that this young lady was a child.<quoted text>
This girl was committed to engaging in reckless behavior and no one was going to stop her from doing it. The boy had no right to kill her but given the lifestyle she chose the outcome should not come as a surprise.
Maybe the police should spend their limited resources helping people that want to be helped.
By the way, have you checked out her R-rated Youtube video yet? Yes, she was definetly a delicate flower.
In Fort Lauderdale girl's case, police attention went missing

Please dont be baited by this obvious racial crap. This article is clearly nothing but race baiting. Mayo has shown a clear disdain for police and that, combined with no knowledge of law enforcment in general, makes his op-ed not only innacurate but dangerous. There are criteria for dealing with missing people. If I only heard Mayo's account, I would have heard enough to know that a previous runaway would not be considered endangered or special risk. This article is no different than the hack job Mayo did on the search warrant shooting. He has no knowledge of how police departments operate and he clearly has no willingness to learn. This crap belongs in the Enquirer, not a paper of record.

HEY da truth..the fact of the matter is YOU are the BIGGOT/RACIST or whatever word you want to think you know all about. You haven't got a clue as to what COPS are about. You speak garbage with your jaded views. As I told Mayo earlier, why don't you try to become a FLPD COP and change the world. There are 450 men and women that are trying to, but it's hard at times when they have to deal with close minded simple digit IDIOTS LIKE YOU!!! Now I could go on and STEREOTYPE YOU TOO IDIOT, as to all the reasons you WON"T or CAN"T become a COP, but I won't bother as for 34 years I know what I have done as a cop and I'll continue doing the job I LOVE TO DO for at least another 10 years so I can collect my SOCIAL SECURITY |

This post is right on the money. Also, with regards to the cops not finding the body. In one of the TV reports, two teens showed a reporter an area under a trailer that was covered by plywood and it seemed that the body was initially placed there. I have not seen or heard any further mention of this. I think the suspects' mom hauled the body to the dumpster area and then "discovered" it. |
You are agin dumb, blind and wrong. I received quite a few awards from the community in my time at FLPD. It is so obvious that you hold the racist behavior and ignorant stereotypical attitude towards the police. Forget that I asked you to become a cop. you obviously could do the job right so stay at whatever job you have ( if you have one you moron). |

I would like to thank the people of the community for showing compassion and understanding during a time of crisis for all involved. Our teenagers need the adult community to teach them how to conduct themselves in the time of despair. Please continue to hold together and may you find peace with God during these troubled times.

This is nothing new for the City of Ft. Lauderdale Police Dept.
They have a history of not responding the the African American community on the same level as other groups. |

Mr. Mayo,
Attend the police academy, become a Fort Lauderdale police officer, learn policy and procedure, THEN add in the factors of habitual runaways, the mother’s time delay, and so forth. Hopefully your intellect will solve all law enforcement problems and you can quickly re-establish a working protocol to be followed by agencies around the nation. Yes, I am an uneducated, racist, money grubbing, power-tripping, law enforcement officer.(Inappropriately deemed so by you and your fellow staff writers) It seems any chance the Sun Sentinel gets to crucify a law enforcement officer, they jump on the opportunity. It is funny how other articles that appear to be somewhat worthy of an intellectual argument are left void of the comment section. Yes, Funny. God Bless the parents of the child in this dire time. |

Mayo once again you show your ignorance and prejudice toward the Police. Why didn't you do anything to help this girl. Why don't you write about parents that have kids and don't bother to raise them. No not you. It's easier to attack the cops.
Mayo this is an ongoing thing with you. If you hate cops so much go live where there aren't any. Next time your getting your wimp ass beat up. Do us all a favor. Don't call 911. |

It seems to be standard procedure in this country that anytime a female is a victim of a crime up to and including murder, that is shrugged off and she is smeared with the title of 'prostitute'. Once that happens, everyone just shrugs and says 'what can you expect', as if rape and murder are punishments sent by God instead of vicious acts by thugs.
When did the Taliban take over here? When will there be a time that a crime committed against a female person will be regarded as a matter as serious as a crime committed against a male person? Not in my lifetime, I'm guessing. So we threw away alot of US lives in Afganistan and Iraq to keep the terrorists away, and they are already here. They are raping, killing and maiming girls and women, and being treated as if they are avenging angels from Heaven. In fact they - and their apologists, who are posting to this article - are as far from Heaven as you can get. Fry, fry. |

Sorry, but a "well-to-do family," or any other family that gave a krap about their kids, wouldn't have gone a week without really knowing where their 14-year-old daughter was. Police had every reason to believe a kid would run away from a family like hers.

You seem to be so blinded by your hatred that you have lost sight of what the discussion is and you employ a classic bait and switch tactic to reinforce your own prejudice. Now, follow closely, please. The subject of Mayo's column was not whether or not the boy had a right to kill her (he didn't) and not whether or not she deserved what she got (she didn't). The subject of Mayo's column was whether or not the police department took the initial call seriously enough. It's a very simple question, really, and you never addressed that part at all. That's really not surprising, though, is it? People like you who harbor strong prejudices rarely concern themselves with facts and you appear to be no exception. Speaking of "facts", you say that my precinct should fire me because I "obviously have information many of us do not." Everything I put in my comment was available online from local newspaper articles published in the last few days on this case. If you took the time to read them you would also have every bit of this information. One final thing. My precinct can never fire me as I am not even remotely involved with law enforcement. About as much information as I can give in a public forum is that I manage a distribution facility in Davie and I supervise five people who work with me. Thanks for playing ... |

Police work is a science. I am doubtful that any law enforcement agency in the country would have done anything different than what FLPD had done.
To this day too many people rely on the police to solve their problems. The police do not solve problems. They take reports and solve some crimes. Sometimes they find missing people too. If we blamed the police for everything happening everyday, then we are blind. We have to have our own responsibility, and that includes looking out for one another. I am glad FLPD solved the crime. I feel bad for the loss of life and tragedy. |

Amber Alerts are only issued in cases were foul play is involved. In this case the grandmother did not even believe there was foul play, because if she did I doudt she would have waited a week to contact the police. It would be a waste of time and resources to issue amber alerts for each runaway under 18. Considering there are dozens reported each day. In most cases the parents have an idea were the child is but will not go looking themselves. |

Michael Mayo,
Do you also assign blanket blame to medical personnel for patients who expire under going a procedure? What would you have done differently in this case? Can the Ft. Lauderdale Police count on you to to organize a citizen search effort 968 times per year? Next time the Sentinal reports a missing child for any reason, I will look to see what news exposure you are giving it. |
|
I imagine that Mr. Mayo believes he is entitled to far greater police protection than that child. If I were you, I would not align myself with his opinions simply because you dislike the police department. Rather, ask yourself, "What did he do with his media outlet to help the situation?" I imagine if that girl were a white girl from a nice area, Mr. Mayo may have made a personal plea via his opinion article requesting assistance. Perhaps he would have posted his own reward... |

You people are crazy!!!!!!!!!! A foul smell is coming from a dumpster in the vicinity of the last known place where a missing person was seen and the cops dont investigate it?????????? Where the hell were they looking? IDAHO????
C'mom!!! You can't tell me this case was given the attention it deserved. NO WAY |

My guess is that she was labeled a prostitute because it was mentioned in the article that she had sex with someone, other than her boyfriend, for the flat rate of $50. What do you call that in your world? |
|
|
If the the Ft. Lauderdale police don't see fit to search near the area she was last reported seen then that is incompetence at its highest. Maybe if she was dumped at the police station door they might have found her body.....then again, maybe not! A resident would probably find it first.
