Everytime I drive to Vegas I see this water park on the side of the road with nobody there. It seems that it is always closed. Does anyone now what the deal is with this water park? Did they go out of business? It seems too far for most people to drive to a water park unless they live in the area.

Eric, The water park is now under private ownership and slated for a 1200 home development in '07. No water park since '04.

The water park used to be Lake Dolores Water Part and after it was taken over a worker got hurt on his off time and sued the park. They went bankrupt and sold it to someone in 2001 at a very deep discount. At this time it became Hula. They ran it as a water park for awhile and decided they wanted to sell the land. There are major plans to build the 1408 residential units in '07.

Anyone know a firmer timeline for the tear down? If I were to drive up to the park to take some pics, how close can I get?

Fact: Without special permission, you CANNOT get into the park. Security WILL escort you out.
For the facts, contact the park property representative:
Mr. Spike Lynch. You can get him through the website at Newberry Springs - Harvard Property Owners Assoc.

Why has there been sudden interest in land in the Hinkley area?? After "Ernin Brochvich", Hinkley seemed seemed destined to remain a dry patch of barren desert.

I am a local Realtor who deals in land and this is what’s happening.

The closed water park was purchased by an investment group. Since the acccident it’s probably impossible to get insurance for the park. You can thank James Mason for killing a great place.

There are several groups interested in the park and/or land, but the owners are not talking. So the closed park is just going to stay there.

It’s difficult to open another park in the area because SB County will not permit more lakes in the area and water rights is another issue.

For those interested in water parks, there is another developemnt group working on a water park in Hesperia off I-15. The same engineer who designed the park in Newberry Springs has been hired to design the park in Hesperia. No opening date yet, but they will probably target summer 2008.

HINKLEY

The contamination is located North of the old PG&E plant. PG&E has purchased most of the contaminated land and is now tearing down the empty buildings. You can see this on HWY 58. They are pumping vegetable oil and lactate to convert chromium 6 to chromium 3 to nuetralize the contamination. The movie overplayed the size of the problem, but it's sad that PG&E knew of the problem and did nothihng. The contamination is a very small part of Hinkley clearly defined on a map.

Hinkley has become popular because the land is still reasonable priced and is just West of Barstow. This is a good area for smaller investors.

That’s it. I can be reached at tb@ez15loan.com interestd in the area.

how about he just thinks its wrong that that guy would sue. he probably got hurt because he was doing something stupid or something he wasnt suppose to be doing. you must have a similar mindset as james mason. i bet you are the kind of jerk who would sue mcdonalds because YOU spilt hot coffee...on YOURSELF.
