1 Or besides yes man Officers running the post? Or besides the Puppet City Council and Mayor of Columbus? Or Besides the Rampant Drug problem on post but nothing is being done? Besides the fact the Army does not have a drug treatment facility available for Enlisted, or Jr Officers but more and more come back from war and get on drugs to keep the rush of combat going. I don't know what is wrong? |

Fort Benning has a really bad name over that way in Columbus. Its strip clubs, pawn shops, tatoo places, bars, Isn't there anything else for these soldiers to do when they are not on base?? All you hear is them fighting and getting into trouble. Why isn't the Army taking care of our Soldiers coming home from "War" No where around. That is why back in 2003 17 soldiers were sitting in jail from the 3ID either shooting someone or stabbing someone, beating someone, OH that is right that is what they teach them to do I forgot and most of all Kill people. That is what Fort Benning is all about. How Sad

The army can't get decent people to join up, so they take dropouts and criminals and deviants. No wonder the whole place is a cesspool of morons and idiots.
What can you expect when you recruit people like that? Well, you can expect about what you get now. Before I left i was disgusted with the new recruits we were getting in. |

Because worthless career soldiers (I am not directing this to you) are now politicians more than leaders. They lower standards of conduct and performance in the Army. You can take minor criminals and troubled youth and turn them into good soldiers but that takes dedication and discipline. You can not take these same people and turn them good with out it like we are doing right now. Things like this have been going on for years but the mid 1990s was the begging of the real problems and roots of our leadership today.

1 I wanted to post what you said. They 'used to could' take a young soldier and mold him into something special. Now their hands are tied with political correctness and the fear of ticking off the wrong group has everyones hands bound. Then as you say, the powers that be do have their political aspirations to contend with. You can't stick a 19 year old criminal in time out and expect to turn his life around. I imagine an old fashioned asp kicking is out of favor now? Heck, even torturing your enemies is out of favor.(just kidding) |

As a mother I to have a beef with Fort Benning,I have been attempting to deal with them for almost 3 years.
My son had been there for the 2nd time ,went out one night with couple soldiers and just disappeared. So guess what they say he went awol,he was 30 when he joined, has a child, They never contacted me he was missing I found out when his cell phone kept saying voice mail box. Then they told me all his military records was missing, also his medical. My son would never go without contacting me or his child,And I fill my son has met with foul play,But i am one mother who will not sit back and listen to their lies. One way or the other I will find out what happened to my son. And that they can take to the bank. I know I am not the only one going through this,he is my son and i will find out what happened. |

My son got to Ft Benning three weeks ago and quickly developed physical issues that have been extensive enough to discharge him over. Problem is, they have stuck him in with a 'rough' bunch and is being basically abused over being hurt! The last I heard from him he was scared of the other guys and couldn't sleep as well as being abused by the people in charge. They keep telling him he's going to be there 'a long time', even though the medic as told him he needs to go.
I'm afraid for him...is there anything I can do to get him out of there???? He's going to be sent home anyway. |

1 Poor babies. I guess when all these wimps joined the Army they thought it was going to be like The Cub Scouts. |

I know in my heart he has met with foul play,I just can't believe the things that are going on with the military, the things I found out would make your hair curl.I have a couple top psychics working on it right now, thye have worked with the FBI and other police dept. I will find out what happened one way or the other.again thank you for caring enough to find out if I heard from him.Any mother would do what I am doing if it was their child.

I'm very sorry. I watched that movie The Valley of Elah the other night. It bothered me. We didn't know where the story took place at so I looked it up and was surprised that it was here. I just moved to the area so I kept reading & saw your post. I don't know if you live here in Columbus or not but if you need any help from me, I can surely try. My husband is in the military here. I doubt I could be much help if the FBI can't find him, but just let me know if there is anything I can do. I can't imagine what I would do if it was my son- but like you, I know that I wouldn't stop trying.Take Care.

Thaks again,Just thought I would let you know the FBI isn't looking for him,but then again neither is the military at Fort Benning.I talk to Richards dad,the soldier murdered from Fort Benning in the movie.Would you believe it has been 5 yrs and that family still has not recieved his remains yet.
I just can't believe it has been almost 3 yrs that Sam has been missing and the military just blows me off,and then never even told me about it. |

Wow, I was born and raised in columbus, ga. And basically lived here all my life. I have tons of friends in the military as well as family that were/are stationed there and I had no CLUE about all of these problems.... All i hear about pertaining to ft. benning is soldiers missing/ or killing each other and of war protestors. It's so sad and terrible and my love and support goes out to your families who have to deal with the evil abuse that goes on there.

Fort Benning was not that bad. It is the people on fort benning. I started having alot of family problems, my son got very sick and i asked hem for there help and they refused to help me. i went awol to help my family. I had nothing against being in but when my drill sgt refused to let me call home and check on things i went nuts and took of running one night.I am really sorry about your son. Its better for him to be gone than to be at ft benning...
