Jum Ellman Sr. gets my vote. He always ran a fair race from the beginning to the end. I believe that this pasy year was his last. He will be missed.

Wouldn't it be awesome to go back to the 80's when the guys were in it for the fun? Some of the drivers of recent have them so welding up the cars are like tanks. You can almost predict whose going to win and it's not as exciting to watch. I haven't gone in years because of this. If they have to cheat to win what sense it there?

Jim Elman Sr. & Chad.Al Kern also was a hard runner and hitter.Alot of great talent at the Chautauqua County Fair.Alot more talent than i have seen at other derbies. The over welding as come to a end.they are only allowing so much but you have to let them do some. These guys put alot of time and money in these cars to destroy them in one show.Even with a feature win 99% of these guys still lose money on what they got invested.Support your local demo's.The more fans in the stands the better the prize money for these guys.

But it's not fair, not all the drivers are able to weld a tank and put concrete in the bumpers.

That's what they did in the 80's, it was much more exciting...everyone was honest and the best driver won.

most of us are honest. im one of the drivers (ran the jaguar this year) most of the drivers do it for the love of it. its something we enjoy. what takes the fun out of it is the guys that put 6 grand into a car and always win. i think the crush cage around the driver is important. but the guys that weld it all should be booted.

I agree with you 100% and believe in safety for the drivers as well. I also feel that the drivers should be required to wear a neck brace for their protection. What I DON'T like to see if a intentional drivers side hit go overlooked. And you know that happens quite often

The neckbrace I may not agree with. I for one turn my head to look out the back window. allot of times though you cant see where you're hitting an opponent. so the drivers door hits look intentional...but at the same time some are on purpose. although i have to side with he judges, there are dozens of hits happening at any given moment. they cant catch everything. you watch derbies im sure....if you can tell me you see every single hit i would refuse to believe you.

You're right,I can't see every hit...but I'm just 1 person, how many judges are there?? There are guys with radios all over the track. I believe they are there for a purpose...they are "suppose" to report any illegal activity or injuries!!

theres around 7 judges...i think. hate to say it but the driver has to alert people to their own injuries or atleast hope its obvious. most of the time when someone is hurt they wave to the flagmen or flail around inside the car. as far as drivers door calls. yes they should always be fair regardless of reputation

Good drivers ,bobby studley, pat smith , kevin davis, the clemens brothers, duke and a dozen more. Jim ellman sr. always makes the finals. You would too if you had allan kern building your texas cars from scratch. Cheating i,m sure there is some. Some guys have alot more talent tools time and a place to build them . If they were illegal the inspectors wouldn't let them in. Onr thing for sure the prize money hasn't raised in 10 years. That's why the show is getting smaller.

Some of the drivers look at the rules as..this is what i have to do to get into a heat. Some others see the rules as ...what more can i do to win. It's just a matter of how hard are you willing to work. My dad told me , when they start making rules against what your doing.. Your on the right track . Do you want to be a winner , or a crybaby? And the money hasn't been raised in 11 years. I always thought gary anson was a good driver.

Forget that po-dunk, lameass excuse for a fair.Appears Mike Hodkin is the man if you can believe the Observer. The Toronto win puts him heads over anyone in the area.
