Letter: Don't sweat the small stuff

Full story: Chico Enterprise-Record

Having recently worked for a fast-food restaurant I quickly noticed how we as Chicoans seem to always be in a rush and want food and service right away.

Are you serious? You work in a place called "fast-foot" and get upset when people want their food fast. When I want food fast, I go to fast food places. When I'm leisurely and have plenty of time I avoid fast-food at all costs. Perhaps the problem isn't the people looking for you to live up to your name, maybe it's you who took the job not thinking that maybe people would hold you accountable, that maybe people go to fast food places because they're in a big hurry and have something more important to do next than be thankful that we have such places. Maybe a little empathy on your part would help you be more accepting of people you wait on who aren't accepting.
Here's a hint, Waiting on human beings is not a pleasant "walk in the park." If you were looking for brotherhood, you got the wrong establishment.

Ms. Barrett has valid points. Wow Don-I guess you are one of those human beings that are not pleasant to wait on. Maybe you should avoid fast food at all costs at all times with your attitude. I have a suggestion for you-go work at a fast food restaurant for a week; maybe you will change your obnoxious attitude after dealing with obnoxious people….like you.

The best thing about working for some of the local slave drivers in this town is that when the boss is gone you can be as rude as you want to dick faced customers.

People have no class or respect anymore. They want everything handed to them on a silver platter and RIGHT NOW! It's pathatic! The people that work are the ones that have to listen to their whining, all about me, I'm number 1. blah blah blah. No wonder why our nation is a mess.
Teach your kids manners and work for what they want. They do learn from you, you know! Get rid of the over head and keep the teachers that want to actually teach our kids and pay them right and put the rest into the schools. Take a breath and relax, your not the only one in the world in a hurry and YES sometimes you have to change the tank for the soda you want, it doesn't have an endless supply! You still want to be a jerk, look in the mirror and yell all you want... don't take it out on anyone else.....

I'm surprised at Don's post too. I have been reading his posts for a while. I do not agree 100% with his ideas but I enjoy reading them. As a rule he doe's not post like this. He must not have had his coffee yet.

And who are you, the karma Nazi? I worked in fast-food for two years, what are you going to tell me about it? I went into it knowing an important fact that you could learn something from- not all people are like me. Who gave you the power to sit in judgment over other people? When you work SERVING people, you do just that. You do your best to see that they get what they want. You hear things that aren't your doing, and people make mistakes. That's part of life. Grow up and join in.

First class- that's an improvement. If I'm gonna be a jerk I might as well do it right. You sound like an expert on jerks.

Maybe I overdid it, maybe not. It just seems to me that when you're working in general service you take what you get from people or you do something else. I have been serving people for nearly fifty years and I know, yes, people are rude, yes, you get blamed for problems you didn't cause, yes, you don't make enough money and the number of people who complain outnumber the complimenters. Doesn't it seem logical? It comes with the territory. There are a lot of unhappy people in the world, and to them, it's not small stuff, and it's demeaning to decide that their legitimate complaints aren't worthy. I know when I get upset, I act rude and selfish and impatient. What's the best way for someone else to handle that, stack more problems on me? accept that maybe I'm hurting and can't be my best self at that moment? I don't know, I get a hundred phone calls a year from parents who want to tell me what's wrong with my principal, the board and the world, should I write in to the paper each time and call their complaints "small stuff?"
Isn't getting upset with people over their concept of "small stuff" sweating small stuff? I'm going to get some coffee. I didn't mean to offend, but apparently I did.

Hey – you brought it up with your inflammatory response to a letter that most people here feel makes sense. Quit projecting your bias against me and others. Take a hard look in the mirror Don, put extra sugar and a Prozac in your coffee, go for a 5 mile run, and call your therapist in the morning.

So why don't you tell me what that means, Dave. "Most people" thought (not feel) that the letter makes sense. Great! Does that mean I have to be like you? Do "most people" dictate the perceptions of all of us? You describe my entry as inflammatory, what adjective would you use for yours to me? Bias is opinion, sir, and I have every right to my opinion no matter what you think. Who nominated you protector or did you just assume that this letter writer "and others" are too feeble to speak for themselves, so you, the anointed one are the only force big enough to take on the big bad wolf? You're pretentious and hypocritical.

WOW DON! Based on the number and tone of your posts, you might better "serve the public" for the next fifty years by shutting up.

Don you are the type of person who, if you want fast food, make it in your microwave at home and spare the rest of us from your rants, thank you.

You are soo clever. Where do you get your material? You dialogue like a champ. It's okay, if you had a thought you would put it down, the truth if obvious. You don't have to read anything I write, go back to your comic book world where people look up to your opinion.
What are you gonna do now, tell my mother?

Daily Horoscope for January 6

Libra

Don't hold anything in, especially an emotional burden. The only way to drown the past is to open the floodgates. If you've got something to say, come right out and say it. The only people who might be offended by your honesty don't really matter in the grand scheme of things anyway, Libra. Great changes flow smoothly through your day. When you take charge, everyone feels at home.
