History Channels Hatfield McCoy Feud

Yes, good job too. They're not making fun of the area and they seem to be keeping with the basic facts. They are also doing a good job showing how the feud was spread out over a long period, not happening at one time. Randall McCoy's portrayal seems to be a little diminished, but Bill Paxton gives a good perfromance. Kevin Costner makes an excellent Devil Anse Hatfield. He plays him as a much reserved character than most actors portray the Hatfield leader and only resorts to violence when forced to. He does shoot a soldier at the begining of the film, but it is clear he would not have doen so if given an alternative. Most films stick to the sterotypical showing a black and white version of these men. This production shows them as being human. There are even times that the characters show respect to their fellow clan leaders. A good example of this is when Devil Anse Hatfield doesn't want his son to mary against Randall McCoy's wishes. It seems that the elder Hatfield and McCoy's do not want violence which seems to be carried out by the younger members of the families.

This review is only based on the first part. The producers chose wisely to carry it out in three parts. Otherwise, the story would not have been easily shown the years between the incidents and thus would have seemed as if the feud happened within a short period as is depicted in other versions.

Tom Berenger plays Jim Vance who is more of a side kick in this version, but is played well.

Powers Boothe plays Judge Valentine Hatfield and plays the part with his usual power and glory. Powers played Cury Bill in Tombstone and of course the series Deadwood. Most will remember his great performance as Jim Jones in Guyana: The Story of Jim Jones.

The whole cast is of A list and those who should be A list material. It is well cast which is not bad for a History Channel production. It is directed by Kevin Reynolds who has worked with Kevin Costner before directing Robin Hood Prince of Thieves and Waterworld.

A great production.

Should have been filmed in the area where the feud took place. We lost a lot of economic benefit for the area, our politicians are a joke. They never even raised an eyebrow when they were in here doing research, they could have worked harder to get the movie filmed here, I would have ask for a boycott and raised a stink about it...

Romania will get more from this movie than we ever will...Some of these historic sites should also be historic sites and museums also, not Italian Restauaunts.

And there's plenty more feuds in Kentucky, so there could be lots of production here in Kentucky, if we'd get some sort of Ky Hollywood outfit up and running... we also need a silicone valley for ourselves...

they could do a show with the battle of jenkins in it.

they could do a show about the melungeons although they say they arnt real now.

They should have filmed the hatfields and mccoys in ky.I am team hatfield the mccoy guy seems like his accent is a little dragged out.

Chief, I noticed last night that the miniseries will be on DVD.It advertised, but I didn't pay much attention to the commercial.

It will come out on DVD July 31, 2012. Sarah Hatfield was my great grandmother.

I really hated to be judged by Northern slum rats where they count the population by counting the number of basements and multiplying by 20. 2nd. generation projects crack whores for mothers and real Heinz 57 variety types that even DNA can't flip up their real daddy. I mean they can't even afford to keep the lights on in Detroit, I see where they cut the street lights off in a large segment of the city. I bet those project apes from the martin boxes are having a field day now, murder capital of the world. I hope the last spear chucker out turns out the rest of the lights.
