The commissioners have the money to build additions to the pods currently at the jail from SPLOST. The jail was built that way so more pods could be added at a later date so WHY is Steve Berry against it and holding everything up?
If the "locals" who now live around the jail don't like the idea they need to move, not move the jail.

The best way to resolve the issue is to force judges to work harder to resolve the backlog of cases that have led to so many inmates jailed, Berry said.

Hence the reason the Govenor is getting ready to appoint Richard Taylor as Superior Court Judge. Lets see if Berry is actually correct and this method actually reduces the overcrowding problem.

The right thing to do is for that stupid fellow you all have for a sheriff,is to let some of these people BOND OUT. He is keeping them there because he's going to show everyone that he will get his way and build another building . But why? If will be full by the time it gets built. "DUH"

He thinks that if he keeps the jail overcrowded, he can force the commis. to let him build the addition. I have NO love for Berry and think he is a egomaniac, but I'm glad to see that he is standing his ground against BFT.

The jail was there when they moved in the area. And the older citizens who were there for years had no problem with the jail. So get a life jerk.

How bout if Sheriff Gregory let inmates with a bond bond out. Why because the people that want to bond them don't have property yo cover the bonds. It's funny they had the same property and the two Sheriff's before him allowed the same people to bond out back then. Oh yeah not enough property value to cover the bonds. Well there is the same problem in the other 158 Georgia Counties. These are the same offenders with the same kin people with different or maybe even same charges as before. They are citizens of the county that are not going anywhere and will be here when court time comes around for the case three to five years from now. The Sheriff won't allow the Bonding because he is forcing the overcrowding of the jail this is a fact. The last year before Bill Smith was leaving the jail count was about 120 to 130 every day now it is 220 to 230 everyday. Theres not that many more felony arrest being made people. This is smoke and mirrors to shove the overcrowding up the County Commissioners butts. It's called POOR JAIL POPULATION CONTROL for a SHERIFF. He is costing the County too much money to prove a point. The fact still remains the jail is out grown and needs to be replaced. With that comes mores workers and more money for the Sheriff's budget. Get your tax dollars ready here it comes

You seem to have conveniently forgotten about the 100 inmates that were housed in Irvin County and cost us about a million dollars. The jail was designed to expand and it is certainly not Gregory's fault that nothing was done the last 20 years. You are correct that we about to pay for it one way or the other and have Billy Smith and David "anything Bill Smith wants is OK with me" Rainer to thank for it.

If you think taxes are bad now, just wait until a federal judge gets through with us. Action is needed immediately to relieve the temporary situation and then put a plan in place for the next 50 years.

Tomorrow would not be soon enough and we are about to pay for the 3rd or 4th "study" . Excuse me, I have to go out and find a lemon for my @ss to suck on.

Yeah another "study" that Rainer and Berry said they may not even follow what is recommended or Advised.

Pretty much they said, if the studies results are we have to spend any money to fix the problem....we can't fix the problem.

???WHAT??????

Then why are we paying for a study?

Look it is simple. The jail holds "X" amount of people, you have 110 more than "X" ther eis a problem. Quit blaming judges, etc and coming up with stalling techniques and fix the damn problem. You can blame the judges, the sheriff, who ever you want...but the problem still remains. Quit blaming and fix it

the commission authorized some 6 surveys of the north re water and sewer and never adopted any of them berry/rainer just like surveys. that doesn't make them bad people, it just makes them time and money wasters.

We need at least 480 beds and a staff to administer it. Steve Howard can donate some of this $thousands pay raise to help. I'll bet there is someone out there that can do just as good a job on half what he makes.
