All this guy had to do was listen to what the cop said and instead he put the car in reverse runs over the cop & the cops have to pay him?
Our system & Judges are seriously flawed! Ridiculous! To me it sounds like the cop should have shot him. A car vs. human = deadly force is justified. Dead men tell no stories.

This is a slap in the face to any Law enforcement Officer. I hope they appeal this decision.

"A man beaten in police custody "
This wasn't about the dragging incident, it was about what happened after - police brutality.

He almost killed one of my cops!!!!! One of my best cops at that! Police brutality? Give me a break for christ sake!

If i was in Command ofthe situatipn at that moment i would have order this guy shot! As far a s im concerned, wht he did was attemoted murder! It was the attempted murder of a cop.

He'll get no sympathy from me. And The borough of Folcroft WILL NOT BE REPREMANDING THESE OFFICERS IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM.

You mark my words... This guy will be arrested again at some point for assualt or something worse.

The police ordered him to step out if the vehicle. instead he drove off with mone of my cops hanging off the side of his car. I could give two shits what that joke of a kangaroo federal court has decided. That guy is lucky to have a pulse, because if one of our officers had a clean shot and the decision was left to me regarding what to do... That M***er F**ker would be DEAD DEAD DEAD!

I just want everyone to know that most of us in Folcroft do not back this decision! Its horse shit as far as we see it! that is why I refuse to vote to discipline these officers! In my opinion they were to soft!

Geez Joseph, I SINCERELY hope you have nothing to do with law enforcement. Your attitude is the definition of why law enforcement is thought of with such little respect. Cleaning up your language, learning to control you temper and learning some communication skills would go a long way in having someone take your posts seriously.

Knowing your facts and seeing the look on the face of an officer who was dragged by a car at a high speed at the hands of a driver that would have killed him if he thought he could get away with was indeed infuriating! i will not quell my temper. My temper motivates me to get to work and get things done. If you don't like it, then don't vote for me! in the mean time, I will not pretend to be something that i am not! I call them as I see them.

I will not budge an inch on this. this sleeze ball almost killed a cop, not to mention, he scared the crap out of his xgirlfriend and her son! You don;t have to take me seriously. I could really care less. people who are so obsessed with political correctness to the point where free speach is impeded miss the point! It goes clean over your head because your to worried about word choice and not content. I prefer to keep it real rather than pretending to be something other than human! You are welcome to use the most eloquent and poetic verbage as you would like. But in the end, its quite easy to cover up a shitty idea with a whole lotta fifty cent words my friend. And anyone with a pair of braincells to rub together will see right through the fluff.

Did this make my temper flare. You betcha it did. I know these police officers. i know some of their mothers. I know some of their wives. I've met some of their children. I went to school with some of these guys. it is in my nature to puff up the chest and defend my own when i feel they are being threatened or mistreated. By the same token, if I feel they are being to harsh, Im the first to say it to their face!

So am I angry, You bet I'm angry! And if you don't like it... Tough SHIT!

I am infuriated by all of this. And wether you take it seriously or not is none of my concern. I'll tell you what though, maybe you'll take this seriously. THESE OFFICERS WILL NOT BE PUNISHED BY THE BOROUGH FOR THEIR ACTIONS!!!! And you can take that fact as seriously as a heart attack!

Now im not sure where you come from. But here in folcroft, we like our police. They are our neighbors our friends, and very much a part of our community. We have a good relationship with our cops. Perhaps the people where you come from have a low opinion of your Police. But here in folcroft the only people who think negatively about the police are the criminals, like your friend, who will most likely end up in jail again soon enough!

If it only costs $1001 a pop, Philly PD should start kicking the sh** out of more of their suspected criminals.

Thanks for reinforcing the fact that you should NOT be in law enforcement. You have no objectivity. You need anger managenment.

nopaluvr:

We don't need to manager our anger. Anger is a natural, healthy response that has allowed humans to survive for many thousands of years when faced with peril. It's an instinct, like fear, that helps keep us alive.
So the next time you or any other moron thinks it's ok to pay a guy who almost killed a public servant, both you, and he, should and will be met with the appropriate measure of anger and hostility.
Were it not for seatbelts, antibiotics, and lawyers, idiots such as yourself and the criminal in question would have been long extinct and we'd all be better off.

Joe P and I disagree on most things on this board, but I think we've found common ground here when we say you and the feds need some "Reality Management." Last time I checked, those serving in the Police Department, Fire Department, and in the Military were held in very HIGH regard, and Joe P's opinion, hot tempered or otherwise, is what a PUBLIC FORUM functions to serve.

Congratulations resident, you have mastered the game of name calling. You, Joe P and apparently Folcroft deserve each other. Most places frown on people taking the law into their own hands. Thankfully the Federal jury did also in this case.

Uhhh... the cops are the law... not sure what you meant there... and the federal jury awarded him the minimum because the officers were man enough to admit to roughing the guy up.

And yes, I happen to be proud of a town where police have the common decency to give an attempted murderer a "swirly" at the police station rather than execute the SOB on site, as they were completely in their right to do, according to the "law" that is.

Let this be a lesson to law enforcement:
Killing these jack-asses on site is $1,001.00 dollars cheaper off the bat, and saves the tax payers an additional $90,000 in HBO and air-conditioning for the three and half year vacation these fleas receive after they're convicted.

Do us a favor nopaluvr, google the word "suicide," hit the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button, and tell us how that worked out for the human race.

The police had every right to use whatever force was necessary to stop this event. Sure they could have used deadly force and been entirely within their rights. After the apprehension, though, they have no other authority other to hold and let the judicial system take over.
That didn't occur in this case which is the reason for the award no matter the amount.

You'll have to forgive me for seeing these cops as humans rather than as robots prgrammed with primary directives by the executive branch of our government.
I would not have had half the self control, both during, and after, not to kill a man who tried to abduct a woman and nearly kill me and one of my coworkers at the same time we were trying to prevent it.
But that's why these poor, underpaid, civil servants, who are spit on and hated by a deluded minority of hobbyists such as yourself, have the job they have while I work in software...
Because I would have been on trial for a "wrongful death" claim had I been on scene, rather than the $400,000 "he gave me a swirly" debacle.

Could they, the police, have acted better in the aftermath? Yes.

Would anybody blame them if they didn't considering the circumstances? Well, about a thousand bucks worth, and if I know a certain Union the way I think I do, that amount owed didn't come out of the Officer's pockets.

So: this is not a victory for you and your ilk. This is just the cost of doing business in a world of mandatory minimums, liberal maxims, and malicious men. Can we get anything else today with your purchase?

As long as there are people who think as you do there will always be a market for defense attorneys. As you stated yourself, the police could have acted better in the aftermath. The way they acted is the reason people see them in the light they do.

Just what light is that, and how many "people" are seeing it? You mean the the dim, weak, tired, 2 watt beam, shone by a minority such as yourself on law enforcement only when they do something wrong? How about the other 99% of the time they get it right, sometimes taking a bullet for their trouble?
I like to see numbers from a poll on how much of America really thinks they're doing a bad job...

And let's get it right: defense attorneys seeking million dollar awards for for what is considered a "day at the spa" by criminals in other countries is a direct result of "proffesional victimhood." It's created by ambulance chasers and polarizing profiteers, and untimately endorsed by people like yourself who want to validate their own delusions. Aren't you the one cheering on the lawsuit? Do you even read your own posts?

I know this: twelve people, participating in a court of law, felt about the same way I did. And if that pisses you off, go give the attempted abductor, scumbag, felon some money out of your own pocket to ease his suffering. Better yet, why don't you and all the other "victims" take up a collection?

Let me put this in the context of a dramatic play to illustrate my point:

COPS: "We did rough the subject up a bit. Sorry about that, but we used up all our self-control in NOT KILLING him earlier that day."

JURY: "Yea. That was of kind of beneath you, but considering your job and the circumstances, we understand. Try not to do that again."

COPS hold out hand, and JURY lightly slaps wrist.
FELON goes to jail, TAXPAYERS sleep well, and deluded subverts like nopaluvr foam at the mouth from the misperceived "injustice."

That's about where we met, right?

But they did get their wrists slapped, correct. As long as there is police brutality there will be wrist slaps, multi - million dollar awards or something in between. And the attitude that it is ok will only make the problem worse. The police will never 'police' themselves.

A wrist slap is a "good" thing to get. Not a bad thing.(OMG LOL)

It's not an attitude, it's a "legal judgement."

The District Attorney and Internal Affairs police the police.
