To be perfectly honest, La Cygne is a nice place to live if you don't mind being an hour away from anything recreational to do. We may not have much violent crime, but there is plenty of theft and drug crime going on. Emergency crews take ages to get anywhere and have been known to make mistakes so large as pulling a gun on an innocent person in their own home. If you have kids, consider Louisburg or Paola, but if your single, or have no plans for a family in the near future, its an alright place.

I live in LaCygne also, since 1997. I love it here. The schools & community are great. If you're a good citizen there are no problems. Our police force indeed needs a second look, I agree they should be required to be in shape to perform their jobs physically. Our fire and rescue are volenteer, so give it a break! For peace and quiet it's a nice place.Stay out of Tanglewood and you would love it. If you live here and don't like it please leave!

I have lived in La Cygne for more years than you want to know about.(yes it is spelled
(LA CYGNE) There is a space as it is two words.
Would you put New Jersey together. Anyway
La Cygne is as good as you make it. Be a good neighbor and you are very likely to have a good neighbor. You can find fault in any city you go to if you want to find fault. We have good churches with good people. We have good people serving on the council, fire department, ambulance crew and many other areas with helpful people. Have you helped at harvestors. These people donate their time and much hard work to help others less advantaged. I find that most critical people don't want to get out of their comfort zone and do something for a neighbor or friend just because they can and ask for no return. Now I will get off my soap box. Thanks

I have been working in Linn County for a few years now and this place is a joke! It's obvious no one down here knows one damn thing about how to do anything. Between politics and the "good ol' boy" attitude with everything I'm shocked this place hasn't torn itself apart. I live in Overland Park and once my commitment is satisfied, I am out of this ridiculous place. The residents are blind to what is going on with their elected officials and the officials are as corrupt as any government employee. Typical self-serving morons! They don't care about anyone but themselves. There is a small line that seperates Linn County from Miami County and the difference is night and day. Welcome to the stone age!

I have lived in La Cygne all of my 57 years of life. We have wonderful churches, a beautiful library, fantastic school, stores and pizza. Yes, we have had problems, but who doesn't. The difference between here and a bigger city, is that there are always people around to help you. During a recent flood crises that ruined homes and people's lives, and they all know who they are, there were people standing in the river helping. Why, because they care. Our volunteer fire department is awesome. They hold special training meetings whenever possible. They risk their lives for anyone and everyone in town. And how much do they get paid? Not nearly enough. Do they care? NO. Because they care about people. As far as our over weight cop. Come on....Praise the Lord, we have one!!! And as far as US being self-serving morons...well, now, to know one is to be one!

There isn't much going on in Linn County. Thing is, I like it like that. I would not want to live in OP or JO, that is a joke. Love the people driving their expensive cars yet I think to myself...this is still Kansas...yep, toto! We have problems with out gov't yet there are many good points about the county. If you want recreation, you have to make your own. A lot of recreation around here is us making a living. The crime can be bad but with neighbors looking out after neighbors, we deal with it and take care of ourselves...not expecting anyone to take care of us. Someone mentioned the good ol boy syndrome...you bet! You want to come down here you will deal with many types of people. The ones who want to move into the country without a clue, and the ones with all the clues. Mind your business, stick to the speed limits and laws and it will be ok. Bring the JO or KC attitude and we will show you what country means!

As a former LaCygne resident i can tell you that it has it's share of problems like any community goes. But the police give me a break. To accept a officer that weighs 400 lbs come on. And to also let them hire his son as officer also. How smart is that. No wonder crime and drugs has gone up. Who police's who in that town. It does have very pretty county sides especially in the fall. Other than that i would never go back. Tanglewood was nickname Tangleweed if that tells you anything.

So I guess this Tanglewood/weed is the only place in Linn County that has people that use any kind of drugs? Glad no one else in the county does. I totally agree that the 400 pound cop and son duo leave a lot to be desired. Why do people put up with that? Maybe no one else wants the job - probably pays minimum wage - you get what you pay for....

Oh how I love city people telling us how to live. We have 1/10th the crime, BETTER SCHOOLS, and that "good ole boy club" you talk about is actually called knowing your neighbors name. If your that hot to move back to the city all I can say is good, the country is for hard working indviduals, not cookie cutter douchebags. My tractor cost more than the average home price in Overland Park. Chew on that you snobby city boy!
