Violated state law by passing revisions to the district nepotism policy

Voted to close the KBO without first conducting any research to show if the move would save the district money

Violated New Mexico's Open Meetings Act

Reversed established board policy by allowing students who failed the state test to walk at graduation

Has yet to approve the district budget for the next school year, which means students and teachers will more than likely start the school year without their needed supplies

Failed to appoint an interm super after placing Epperson on leave leaving the district with no executive to make decisions for the district

His position on the school Board is simply a stepping stone in his mind to future political aims

He either does not know the laws and policies governing the district and the state, or simply has no regard for them. Either way the district is the one that suffers. His actions have forced the state to consider stripping the Board of its power and assume control of the district. Is this the type of person you want on the Board?

Someone steps up to challenge the control of Bye Manning, and the scary people come of the woodwork. I saw it for myself at the board meeting when 200 Kirtlandites showed up to say that moving the business office to SAO would destroy their children's education.

Ever since that, there's been a flurry of articles that don't quite tell the whole story and have elicited more fodder for the forum. I don't support the Mannings and their views of the situation, but if ever there was evidence that Kirtland needs to establish their own district, the hateful rhetoric is that. The PED has not been there to help CCSD in other matters when they could have stepped in, so it is telling that the DT reports they will now. It isn't the first time that Randy and Bye have called on their connections in the PED for favors.

I am an Anglo who has lived or worked on the NN for 16 years now. In other public school districts the staff and administration was 90% Navajo and 10% white, and not the other way around as is the case in CCSD. There's a lot wrong with that ratio, and whatever happens next, I am glad that Matthew Tso is doing the best he can to take on the inequities of CCSD, and that the majority of the Board support that. It's about time.

Recall Randy Manning- Vote 1

Randy may have served for 18 years on the board CCSD board but he has shown a lack of moral ethicsin the hiring of his brother as a finance director. Yes, legal, moral and ethical NO!!!. He has also shown varying degrees of racism over those 18 years. If this weren't true, then charges of being racist and religocentrist wouldn't consistently be applied to him.

JUST JEALOUS about Matthew Tso. He is a educated Dine. That is what the Anglo don't like.

Matthew Tso is a graduate of Dartmouth College, an Ivy League school. I would say he is eminently qualified.

Good post Alice, I totally agree and as an employee of CCSD am sick and tired of the Manning madness. This is about the ward being angry they are losing the massive hold they have had on us. We have a board that will not continue the madness and I thank them for their courage. Go Matt!

Your statement is flawed.

Being a graduate of any college, Ivy League or not does not qualify a person. With that reasoning anyone with a bachelors degree from any accredited college and teaching endorsement would be qualified to teach, regardless of their teaching ability. Whether you like him personally or not his lack of knowledge of federal and state laws regulating school boards leaves much to be desired.

But if you do want to stick with your reasoning, Bye has an accountancy degree, so he is qualified to be the finance director. Randy has served on the school board for 18 years so he is qualified. So why is everyone upset with them? After all they are qualified.

If Matthew Tso had any respect for the value of education he would not have voted to allow students to walk at the graduation ceremony without first earning their diploma.

The east of Hogback Community has now reached rock bottom and has started digging. Since its no longer politically correct to use overt racial slurs, it seems its now correct to attack someone's orientation.

I would offer that at least now the board has a complete set of "bookends" as we have one sitting at each end of the panel.

The silver lining in this cloud is that in 2011 we have members of the CCSD board who embrace a different lifestyle and are still able to serve. Forty years ago, this would never have happened.
