Bottom line...this vendor has taken on the responsibility of the custodian of patrons...and, a historical avenue that has been dubbed,'the deadliest in America', which was ended by concerned law enforcement officers (who literally 'shoveled' citizens off the highway in the 'Zia Bar/zone') and those who lost loved ones on that stretch of highway for years. That war was fought long and hard and for a very good reason. Patrons of both establishments frequented each...crossing that very dangerous stretch of hiway...drunk...thank you Zia Bar for re-awakening that nightmare...you live with it now...it's your...responsiblity...stupid, stupid move....re-invent the wheel? There's usually a reason for the end to means....stupid...you live with it.

These are grown adults, they want to drink and drive and get arrested, pay the price, they want to drink and beat on their spouses go to jail pay the price, they want to drink and play in the highway pay the price, they're gonna get the alcohol anyway no matter what. But these people ain't kids, they are adults and they deserve whatever consequences.

Thank you....what a nightmare. Please, if you have cause to travel that stretch of highway, for any reason, please be aware that the danger that plagued our county and families soooo long ago is back...and it is back with a vengance. Please take extra care of pedestrians. Build it and they will come. They'll be back....just as they were years ago...crossing that stretch of highway...drunk....bullet proof and oblivious to the speed in which the cars are actually traveling. The little stretch of highway that these bars emcompass were known as 'Road Pizza Alley'...this is such a tragedy. All the hard work that was done years ago to end this danger has been for naught. Perhaps, just perhaps, there's something we as citizens, taxpayers, family members can do to once again, stop the alcohol sales from this establishment. How much will this cost the taxpayers for 'extra patrol','extra calls','extra emergency services..ie fire, ambulance, police, life care helicopter...
Why was this such an uphill battle for the proprietor? Why? because we all know the reasons it was shut down YEARS AGO!!! This stretch of road was the most dangerous/deadly stretch of highway in the United States!!!! It's documented!!!!

Oh yea lets blame the building, dont bother blaming the stupid drunk Indians who walked out in front of the cars. Maybe we should blame the cars, or the pavement, or the sky. But never blame the drunks who got killed for thier own stupidity. Come on, this is just another example of people interfering with natural selection.

Exactly, they're old enough to buy it, which means they take responsibility for the end result.

What, this store is 3 miles futher west than the others? Mabye five miles, or ten. Where did all the people go after Zia closed last time? Up the street alittle further.
News flash, maybe by the school where they found the METH lab.

Pardon the pun but are we not overkilling the whole issue?

You are exactly right Why Dat! I am aware of the situation before this new establishment was built there and it was a sad situation, but they did have to buy their booze elsewhere if not there. No matter what there is going to be bloodshed anywhere else due to the sales of liquor no matter where its bought. If a person is going to drink, they shouldn't drive, bottom line.

Last time they hung around because there was two bars (My Place, Zia bar) so to bar hop they simply cross the road. There is no more My Place bar and no more Zia bar, just a Zia store, the bar has been replaced by a smoke shop.

Take a drive...see what is across the street....it doesn't have to be a 'bar'...just liquor sales...we're right back where we were during the highest pedestrian/vehicular fatality rate on US 64 in history....right back in the guiness book of records....
Sobeit....Good luck..Smokin Peppers and Topshelf Liquor........welcome to grim reaper alley. Ye reep what ye sow.

I drive through everyday, to work then in the evenings after work, on the weekends to shop. I never see anybody. Back then yes, they use to sit on that hill behind Mustang along the road. I'm sure loitering isn't allowed like when there was a bar. Hogback is closer and more convenient. I see more wanderers downtown Farmington. I just haven't seen proof yet. Maybe give it time because ZIA just opened, but Mustang has been there awhile. I seen cops parked there often.
