Does The Elk Valley Times Suck!

Lakeway Publishers, Inc in Morristown Tennessee owns the following Papers.
The Tullahoma News, The Elk Valley Times, The Herald Chronicle, Manchester Times, Grundy County Herald, and The Tri Lake Ledger. Lakeway Publishers is not about local news but rather promoting their own private business ventures. LogOn Computers, Winchester Office Supplies and Smoky Mountain Marketplace are a few examples. Some businesses advertising in Lakeway Papers are just fueling their own competition. I’m not against paper companies owning other ventures as long as it doesn’t give them an unfair advantage. My complaint has little to do with the staff workers. It really doesn’t matter how good a journalist you are as far as reporting negative facts about a local government. Most of these publications hardly ever print these stories anyway. That would be too risky for Lakeway’s portfolio. Most of the time they just publish what they are giving by the local officials with no questions asked.
I found a blog the other day (Citizen Tribune Sucks). Wow I thought! Morristown Tennessee is home base for Lakeway Publishers, Inc and they are posting these complaints. That should really be a wake up call for everyone stuck in the Lakeway fish barrel. I mean if Lakeway’s own hometown is dissatisfied with their publications than I should really take notice.
Lakeway posted their websites in 2000 and you would think that after eight years they would get a clue.
By using a one-size fits all approach for their websites the towns have no real standout Identity.
Each paper should have a site that is developed exclusively for them not some cheap template.
The only difference from one town to another is the local newspapers name header, banner ads and news content. Now I’m sure this saves lakeway some time but it really shows their web ignorance. It shows how little they know about the Internet reading community. This cheap template has got to be the worse excuse for a newspaper website on the Internet. There is no interactive forum, feedback box or blog. This totality eliminates any input from the readers. Heck there isn’t even a contact email address.
Now if you’re like myself and still using a dialup connection (by choice) you can forget it. By the time it loads it isn’t news anymore. The few times I do try and read the headlines here comes that stupid floating banner ad. Sort of like here’s the important news but first you have to look at my banner ad. Hey Mr. Fishman I don’t want a Snuggles coupon, I want the NEWS.
The Shelbyville Times Gazette has a basic, neat and faster loading website. It shows you can be a small town paper and still get it right. They have blogs as well as a posting forum for everybody. Even their URL shows some web savvy. www.t-g.com I have no connection to this publication I just use it as one of many examples.

Nope! I run ads in it myself and get good results. I just think it needs some tweaking.)
I don’t care for Lakeway Publishers, Inc. This isn’t the (Lakeway Area). That’s in Morristown Tennessee.

We call it the elk valley no news. What a pathetic excuse for a paper. There is never any really helpful news like interviews with local politicians and what they see for us, No real anything useful.

Save your 75 cents buy a can of beans instead.

I have been a subscriber to the Elk Valley Times (and Observer before) for over 50 years and find it to be one of the finest weekly, community-oriented, newspapers in the country. Joyful Noise appears to have some type of personal, warped, vendetta against Lakeway Publishers. Steve Smith

I have lived in or around Fayetteville for 20 plus years. The Elk Valley Times is not worth the money they charge. The main things they report on are Sports and The Police Blotter. That is the only reason most people buy it. The town I came from, near here, would send out reporters to wrecks and crime scenes. They would print pictures of the happenings and such. When I was in high school they would let the seniors write an article and try their hand at reporting.
I understand they try to get as much on the front page as possible, but the layout is terrible. Who wants to read a headline and one paragraph on the front page, then find page thirteen or some bs to read the rest of the story.
