Have they done a DNA test to verify that one of these women is really his mother?

There was an article in the Examiner the other night. I believe it was on Friday. Stated both women were tested as well as both of the males involved. I am just amazed that it went "unnoticed" for 17 years, and that it took the state that long to try to get the 'alleged' father to pay child support.

The mother didnt collect the benefits she worked till she got sick and signed up for benefits that is when they went after father. Any one who has been on assistance knows that if you r on they go after father as soon as you apply |

According to the Examiner, the non-birth mother went to JAFS back in 1992, lied and said she was pregnant so that she could get a medical card in her name to give to the birth mother to use to pay for the care/birth of this boy. Home News Local News Mom switch trio enter not guilty pleas Mom switch trio enter not guilty pleas Written by Joel E. Mast Tuesday, 30 June 2009 MARYSVILLE — Three people charged in a 1992 scheme to switch mothers of a newborn all pleaded not guilty to charges Monday in Union County Common Pleas Court and were released on their own recognizance. Coriene Cooper, aka Coriene Ilse, 43, of 214 Pratt St., Apt. 8, Bellefontaine, has been charged with eight counts of tampering with records and one count each of Medicaid fraud and grand theft. She faces up to 43 years in prison. Marie A. Davis, 39, of 216 S. Detroit St., Bellefontaine, faces up to three years in prison if convicted of one count each of Medicaid fraud and tampering with records. John R. Knasel, 45, of Sidney, is charged with one count of tampering with records. He could get 18 months in prison. According to Union County Assistant Prosecutor Melissa Chase, the three were living together in Bellefontaine in December 1991 when Ms. Davis became impregnated by Mr. Knasel’s visiting nephew. Ms. Cooper convinced Ms. Davis to give her the child after its birth. By spring 1992, Ms. Cooper told Logan County Job & Family Services she was pregnant and began receiving pregnancy allowances. Ms. Davis was seeing doctors using Ms. Cooper’s identity and her medical records were used by Ms. Cooper to validate the pregnancy payments. Ms. Davis continued the ruse through the birth of the child, a boy, and Mr. Knasel signed the birth certificate as the father. The scheme unraveled in 2005 when Mr. Knasel announced in a Logan County Common Pleas Court hearing regarding child support that he was not the father and Ms. Cooper was not the mother. Subsequent DNA testing confirmed Mr. Knasel’s claim and prosecutors indicted the three earlier this month. Authorities in Logan County referred the case to Union County authorities because the child was born in their jurisdiction. |

The young man comes first. If he is interviewed by a counselor and the counselor finds that he is doing OK and comfortable with the situation, let it go. It sounds as if he in a sense has two "mothers" both of whom really care about him and each other.

Cheyenne; you sound like a very loving and forgiving young man. I'm sorry you did'nt have a father to stand up and be proud of you. His loss, but it looks like you have a couple of wonderfull women in your life. Embrace them and I hope the courts don't judge them. THier supposed crime looks to have been done out of love. And, I am proud of them for looking out for you from before you were born. I don't knwo how that could be called a crime! God Bless you always with love.

1 The woman worked until the boy was 12 and i believe if ppl cked the djfs knows the truth and have for a long time, But they do not got the facts straight and Coriene has been granted custody of the boy in a court in logan county many years ago and a legal adoption was started way b4 any of this came out to change the boys name. after they found out john knasel was not the father so where is welfare fraud in play they knew the bilogical mother was marie and coriene had custody no fraud. Those are the words of John Knasel who knows nothing of the truth because he forgets how to speak it, he didnt know coriene came clean years ago and when that comes into play and the fact he lied to the boy till he was 12 tried to get him to come live with him and when the boy said no that is why he came out with the other because he didnt want to pay child support. Coriene worked and supported him at two jobs. She is well known and respected in the town she lives in City Officials are offering her there support and so is most of the town. Most can look up her name in the urban dictionary where someone put her name. She is well loved and gives love back. She is MOM to everyone and tries to take care of everyone and for this to happen to her because she got sick and ask for help is a shame |

1 Sounds like you need to get your facts straight also because Corkey never had but one of her brothers children. And she did have custody check into it the mother had to get somethings worked out for herself and as for that situation Steph loves her aunt cork and respects the fact that she helped her Steph was at the hospital with Corkey when she had surgery and loves her very much and they are in touch frequently, This is a very close nit family. So it is just something else you know nothing about so get it right or keep your mouth shut and West Virginia lol it was Mingo Junction and when she lived there that is also on file duh she had to keep in contact with courts because of visitation and she brought the child back every wkend and the other kids were not even born yet |

True, unless the mother does not want child support then she can tell them that, I have seen that happen for couples who are indeed together but not married and the mother does not want child support because they are living together, etc. |

To the Oldest Boy, Don't let these scumbags get under your skin. Your family needs you, don't let them down. It sounds like you have your head on straight, keep it that way. Also, to Marie, being a mother, I don't know how any woman can walk away from a child that you carried in your belly! If anyone should be prosecuted, it should be you! You hide your face on tv, to protect your "other" children, how cruel.

1 Really if the kid is raised with charecter how can you call it fraud? Some times there is a need and if the money is spent on the kids welfare how is it Fraud? By the grace of God you might have had a father who took care of you. THis kid only has his mother and she may not be the brightest bulb in the box but she is trying. |
