How were we ever able to build this country in the first place if we can't even find the resources to expand roads anymore?

I wonder if this one will be a waste of taxpayer dollars like the "bypass" we built here in Allentown?
Nothing but a 45 mph speed trap with stop lights in lieu of overpasses.
And the idiots that designed the twin canted route 100 bridges as single lane ought to be hung for treaonous waste of tax dollars. Why in g-d's green earth spend a fortune on bridges and not make them two lane in the event that route 100 volume increases in the future?
Another pork projects for consultants and construction trades/labor.

They didn't spend a third of the road building costs on consultants and environmental studies and lawyers, that's how.

Between 73 and 662. I have seen cheaters pretending to make a left, then tey cut off a car and get back into the straight lane. I would love to see that road monitored, especially on a Friday afternoon. I will be pushing up daiseys before that road is widened.

Certainly would be nice to see this work get done. So much road funding goes into the tiniest, least necessary bits of work. This is one project that actually warrants the work.

As for the Allentown bypass, it definitely is a speed trap and should have bypassed all roads, rather than having traffic lights all over. However, it has reduced the traffic on Hamilton Blvd. a good bit, so it's at least somewhat worth the money spent.

You already know the costs will be up in the sky, and once again we the taxpayers will be forced to open our wallets to build a roadway.

Of course the Trexlertown Bypass is a speed trap.

Especially when you consider that Lower Macungie Road - between Mill Creek and Willow is the same 45mph on a lousy two-lane road that passes right in front of an elementary and middle school.

Who does PennDot think they're kidding?

-------
Consider also the fact that there are THREE "BYPASSES" for 222 in this area: Dorneyville, Trexlertown, and Kutztown.

Has any other road required that many "bandaids"?

Why don't all of you complaining idiots take 78 Home? You can get on at Cedar Crest and off at Fogelsville and take Schantz road to 222.

traffic through this stretch is ridiculous. they talked several years back about this and still are no where. Besides all the farm land going to more small shopping malls (which we do not need)and more lights. just clog it up more. Get a 4 lane highway in like they did from reading to lancaster. I also agree they should monitor this stretch for idiot drivers cutting up left lanes then cutting in front of people coming from Reading to Blandon. someone is going to get killed or someone is going to go postal on somone.

Shouldn't have to. That's what we pay taxes for, to have our money spent wisely on roads that work.

The 222 Trexlertown bypass only partially accomplished what it was set out to do. Unfortunately a typical government waste of money. To add insult to injury they set an inappropriate speed limit and use it as a revenue raiser for the police, municipalities and the insurance industry.

Im sure some farmer who's a special interest will threaten not to re-elect some backboneless politcian and the project will be cancelled before it ever gets off the ground. Then all the regressives in Berks county can take their tax dollars with them, I know, I'm an escapee from Berks County.

The boulevard concept for the Trexlertown Bypass was developed to address traffic congestion, accident reduction, pedestrian safety, community access, business access and land use planning of Lower and Upper Macungie townships. The final product took into account the input of the local communities and businesses.

The at-grade intersections for the Bypass provide valuable local access to local businesses and residents.

The leading proposal is to shut down Rte 222 between 61 and Kutztown. Folks will drive up to Rte 78 and use that as the new bypass.

The existing 222 will be turned into a flea market.
