why was it closed?

um it think it was closed because people just forgot about it and due to lack of funds it was forced to closed. Now its the Hatchey fro fish which i dont even understand! I know the Cold Creek dumps into Lake Erie but why not over in Port Clinton or Over in Sandusky!

I think it would be fantastic.
With lacking economy it would be a great way to bring extra money into the local economy, provide a nice recreation opportunity, and promote the local trout fishery for education purposes.
They could continue the private trout club fishery and just open up enough of the grounds for visitation.
I remember going there as a kid and it was an experience I will never forget.
You can still see one of the "blue holes" by visiting the ODNR trout hachery but there is only one original BLUE HOLE.

I believe that a private concern owns the Blue Hole now. I remember going there as a kid and I loved it.

The blue hole was closed because it was not handicapped accesible and the gift shop was run by volunteers. That are mostly dead now. At least thats what Smiley the cop said from castalia

I believe it was closed because they were told that they had to make provisins to make it handicap accessible, and since it was private owned, and not doing well at the time, they decided to close because it was going to become too costly to make the provisions.

They should re-open it. ONly give it a new twist. Since it is a historical side where indians were staying also. I believe the white family was the first whites massacred around there also. Work with the indian theme.tee pee etc.

It would be super to revive The Blue Hole. Driving nearby the area I would sometimes think about the possibility. With the re-vitalization, it would be great to have a picnic area again for families and attractive plantings, walkways in main area with information accessible and be a place where people would like to tell others and would like to return. There is an array of possibilities!!

My mother was telling me again this morning how sad she was back in about 1989 when she got her new son-in-law to drive her back to see the Blue Hole. Alas! It was shut! She told me again this morning how cool it was as a child when her parents took her to this wondrous place and what a great family event it became as they passed by that way, often stopping again and again.
So I got on the internet and looked it up. I'm so glad to see people talking about opening it again! Please do.
I wish the government hadn't closed them down with the Disabilities Act; they have messed up so much with their meddling, and we so much need to stop them in future from doing the same, that the Blue Hole could be used as a test case showing how destructive government mandates are to real societal prosperity. The choice was between a few handicaps missing out or all future generations of Americans.
We would all come with my mother back to the newly reopened Blue Hole for all these and other reasons mentioned in posts above.

Yes, i have looked up this very much. Figuing that i reside near it ive always thought if Margeretta Schools and the ever helpfull SCCS kids could try to pick up and clean up there! Actully i wish we could make it a community effort! Get Oak Harbor, PC, Sandusky, Basicly everyone in the SBC area! Thats my wish!

I went to the Blue Hole and when I did get there in 1990 they had a sign saying closed. How depressing. You know Ohio only has a handful of natural wonders like this. I now live in California and they cherish every hot spring and natural spring making them accessible to the public. It is so these wonders can be passed on to our youth. I can only hope those folks can come to their senses and reopen the "Blue Hole"

Hey since i live in Castalia i went to the Cold Creek Festival. Almost every girl up there says they will try to open it up agian but they never do or never win!? ODD

Wish i could experience the blue hole. Maybe some motivated people will get it open again.

It might be the original in north carolina, but the real original is in the Keys in South Georgia. It was discovered by the spanish colonists, so it truly is the original. It is so much nicer and super deep. I have been scuba diving in it and its amazing (and it is not freezing water).
