Reasons poor people need to go on food stamps

Of course, there are the usual reasons, such as loss of job, disability, but do you know if anyone has ever had to go on food stamps due to such things as DUI costs, late traffic fines, or mandatory auto insurance (no names, please, do you know if these things are causing poor people to go on food stamps?
