My sister backs up to the National Forest.....There is a huge fire!

my son just called from flagstaff and said that they are being evacuated

I've heard from relatives that they were evacuated from Harkins Theaters on the west side of town and that flames were visible from there. They said the west side of town has been without electricity too.

I wouldn't worry too much, I live right next to the Harkins in west Flagstaff and we have not been evacuated. If they do evacuate anyone other than those who have already been it is only as a precaution. The fire is moving northeast, and it doesn't seem to be getting any worse.

There is a fire. It looks to be under control. They are being evacuated in certain areas. If you doubt this.... take a drive over to Flagstaff High School. That is where they are putting people up.

Hi Michelle -- Are you relatively new to Flagstaff? Just wondering since "northeast" of the fire is where Flag is located, and you think that's a good thing? A "Red Flag Warning" has been issued due to windy conditions and low humidity, along with an "extreme" timber fire behavior probability. Extreme = "Fire spreads very rapidly presenting extreme resistance to control. Any form of attack will probably not be effective. Safety of firefighters in the area is of critical concern." Maps of the Southwest fire weather and behavior predictions: http://gacc.nifc.gov/swcc/predictive/outlooks... Daily fire behavior report: http://gacc.nifc.gov/swcc/predictive/outlooks... Many who were evacuated in the 2000 Rodeo-Chediski fire in the White Mountains were only given 15 minutes notice. You might want to think about what you would do, if ... |

Flag needs to get a fire line around the town, like show low did, The us forest service doesnt do anything with the forest that is over grown so bad now its out of hand.
The National Forest is a fire box waiting for the right lightning strike or spark and its going to burn alot worse now than it would of 30yrs ago. The Ranchers use to burn alot of the forests, the logger would log and clean alot of the brush and stir up the ground did our country good. Thank the US Forest Service, the Groups that shut down logging, they are the ones that got it stopped. its like anything you have, if you dont take care of it, you wont have it. the forest got the beetles that killed alot of pine trees, Az,NM.CO Colorado took a big hit with dead trees everywhere that is because when he pineneedles get so deep on the forest floor that lets the beetles hatch. Our forests if they are not burned and taken care of, will all be burnt or dead from the beetles. |
