CLEANING UP CLEGHORN? WHO MADE IT THIS WAY? DID YOU LOOK AT THIS BUILDING, AT THE DETAIL WORK? IT DOES NOT RESEMBLE ANY OF THE UP IN A FEW MONTH UGLY SIDING BUILDING THAT ARE BEING PUT UP NOW. CLEGHORN WAS ONCE A VERY CLEAN AND PROSPEROUS PART OF FITCHBURG,WITH STORES AND A YEARLY LABOR DAY CARNIVAL IN THE CHURCH PARKING LOT.I AM SURPRISED THE CHURCH IS STILL THERE.MY GRANDPARENTS AND ALL THE OTHER PEOPLE THAT ONCE LIVE THERE HAD PRIDE AND RESPECT FOR THE PLACE THEY LIVED WORKED AND RAISED A FAMILY. I KNOW I WAS ONCE A PART OF IT, I USED TO SEE MY GRANDMOTHER SWEEPING THE SIDE WALKS IN FRONT OF HER APARTMENT, MY OTHER GRANDMOTER WALKED HOME TO FAIRMONT ST. FROM PLAYING BINGO AT NIGHT. MAYBE THE PEOPLE LIVING THERE SHOULD GO TO THE LIBRARY AND LOOK UP THE HISTORY AND THE PICTURES OF HOW IT ONCE WAS. I CAN TELL YOU THIS,IT NEVER HAD A POLICE SUBSTATION, IT WAS A BANK, IS THERE EVEN A BANK THERE? I DO NOT EVEN KNOW,I CANNOT EVEN BRING MYSELF TO RIDE THROUGH THERE ANYMORE, A PLACE WHERE I WENT TO SCHOOL, WHERE FAMILY WAS, WHERE I WENT TO CHURCH AND RECEIVED THE SACRAMENTS, AND STARTED MY OWN FAMILY. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE ANSWER IS, I JUST WANTED TO TELL YOU WHAT CLEGHORN WAS. MAYBE A NAME CHANGE, IT IS SO SAD. ATTENTION MUST BE PAID. THANK YOU, REBECCA

My up bringing was in cleghorn and I remember it exactly like you said, and my mother still lives there. I lived in the building they tore down, and actually was a decent clean place. You asked "who made it that way? I'll tell you, the scumbags took over, and the slum lords that don't give a crap about how they keep their property and who they rent too! As a child who grew up there, we always rented and had great neighbors. Cleghorn was a thriving part of Fitchburg looonngg ago. I have a place in my heart for it, but it gets smaller and smaller each time I go there. Yes, it has gotten alittle better, and there are a lot of nice homes, but it will never be what it once was!

How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Rejuvenating the area has to start somewhere. How about being a bit positive? Making it nice will make it unaffordable for the people you say are bringing it down...

BTW, I drove by it at least once a week. Glad it finally came down

I've always felt that the state really dropped the ball with Fitchburg & Leominster. The area has a lot of potential but is hurt by the lack of infrastructure. There is no real highway connecting it to Boston, nothing that connects it to Manchester/Nashua. They're isolated from the other cities in that aspect.

I have to agree with what you guys are writing , my father was born on beach st. in 1940 and he would tell me all the time how nice it was when he was a little boy he would say " it used to be all french people in those days everybody had gardens, everyone knewn everyone . have cook outs , they would go to church every sunday all together as a family unit and as friend and come home and all the boys and girls would dress up every sunday the outside would look nice it wasnt sloppy no guns , violents" im not saying french people are great but but wouldnt it be nice to go back to that time were everyone got along and went to chuch and no fights wouldnt it be nice. people dont care what it looks like cause its not theres . and everyone wants to get everyone back for doing something and there always mad and no one wants to talk and all they want to do it kill people and seek revenge .

I bet my income is 3X yours, and my house in Fitchburg is 2X the value of yours. Not all of us here are a bunch of slobs. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, I'm pretty sure Leominster qualifies as a glass house here.

I live in Leominster and hope to leave here too because of our scumbag mayor.

Rebecca, actually the Fairmount St. area had 2 banks, "Cleghorn Credit Union and Safety Fund. It really was a vibrant important part of Fitchburg at one time. It went into the toilet when Anwelt shoe closed, the Ansin family would have done better for Fitchburg by keeping jobs here instead of the crumbs they throw us.

Well, that's a start. Only about 500 more left to tear down. Then start the illegals roundup followed by the dope dealers and prostitutes then quit wasting money on idiotic projects along the nashua river and then get rid of all the liberals in any office or position then we can have a few bucks left to pave the worst streets in massachusets and be able to turn the street lights back on and then maybe even get the roads plowed in the winter. Ya right, like that's going to happen. Tax and spend blah blah blah....
