So what if they speak Spanish. Big deal. I think there is way too much special preferences given to women who speak spanish. They're getting all the good jobs and really they often don't have the intelligence or professionalism to back it up. Should a person need a translator to apply for benefits or to receive public services there are plenty of options out there. They could bring a friend with them that speaks English (that's how people did it for years!) or they could enlist the help of the Spanish Center in Leominster. We as taxpayers drop a huge amount of cash to that center every year for translator services and assistance so if this department can only do their job with a certain family then I'm sure they can get someone to help them out from there or when they get a cop to go with them to bust down the doors of the house or whatever the problem is...they can request one that speaks Spanish. I don't think the sky is going to fall down because 2 people in Leominster are getting laid off that speak Spanish. If they were the real strength of their teams they wouldn't be the ones let go.

Sadly, the children will be the ones to suffer. It is sad to think that there is no other budget cuts to be made. Lives are at stake here. Someone dropped the ball big time. Families in crisis need intervention to survive or the cycle of crisis continues. Who will help these children and families?

Maybe some of the investigators who kept their jobs could take a night class in Spanish. It would be good for their resumes.

While all immigrants should learn English, it's not the fault of children at risk that their parents fail to do so, and those families need help for the sake of the children.

Well I guess that would mean the only two Spanish people working in Leominster no longer have a job.

They felt the spanish speaking workers were not doing anything because they were never there. They were always out dealing with the low life spaniards running through the alleys of the city. The whiteys in the office get to frink coffee and play video games all day because there are NO problems with them folk.

Sounds like a good time for some people to learn to speak English. I am sick of making all these accommodations for people who refuse to learn the language.

BTW: There are a few places that advertise FREE English Classes in town where they can get free help to communicate with the rest of our non-Spanish speaking society. There is no excuse why you can't learn English.

Actually, I would imagine that the union rules dictated that these two had the least seniority so they were the first to go. In that situation it doesn't matter what skills you bring to the table, it's the order that you were hired in. Welcome to the world of labor unions.

Are you mad because you're not bilingual or because you're not a woman. You sound like a very bitter person. I feel sorry for you.

Maybe they realized that they didn't actually need workers strictly based that they speak Spanish. Maybe the families they deal with do happen to speak English well enough. Maybe they realized they had 2 people on board that weren't pulling their share of the workload well enough to be the ones kept.

Well isn't that just awesome!! They don't do their jobs well enough anyway... may as well lay them off! Too many children have died due to the fault of the social workers!! I've heard so many stories about children who've been returned to abusive parents, cases that weren't taken as seriously as they should have, and social workers who say there wasn't enough evidence due to the fact that they were too lazy to do the leg work involved! So you my as well lay them off... it's not like they make that big of a difference. Better idea: Use their pay to hire vigilantes to 'fix' the problem of child abuse!

Lets not forget the folks they spend time with that they don't NEED to... trashing families lives and reputations because their child went to a guidance councilor after having a fight with their parent and didn't like the outcome. Gotta love a useless 51A.

I think way to much money is being spent on the ills of society. If someone truly needs help to get past a tough time fine, but to be a free loader for life is something different. If someone has a child, and the child ends up in the system blame the parent. If the parent has a second child, and that one ends up on the system, enough is enough. The parents need to be held accountable, and be forced out of the system for life or get forced permanent birth control. Obviously it's not the kids faults but the irresponsible parents that are ruining this country. This goes for all races..........

She said she and her colleague serve as the primary liaison to all families who primarily speak Spanish at home in a region with many immigrants from Puerto Rico and South America.

Learn the English language like all others. This country has to stop catering to these people who wish not to learn English. Tear up all the Spanish translation signs and make these people learn the language. Thats the way it was 70 years ago.
My father came here not knowing one word of English, He learned to speak it or starved to death period...

Let's be real! There are other Spanish speaking workers at the Leominster DCF. This article is by no means accurate!
