Hospital to close psych unit, lay off 19 staffers - Sentinel & Ente...

15 psych beds with an average census of 8?? That's impossible!! That unit could/should be at 100% capacity, 24/7, with a waiting list. Their sister unit at UMass Worcester is almost always looking for beds.

Some patients need to be on a locked MHU. Is Burbank MHU locked? If not some patients may not qualify to be treated there.

It's locked. Certain staff there just doesn't like to keep it full because it's more for them to do. They also refuse all patients that MIGHT be even remotely aggressive or violent(which is pretty much the huge majority of MH patients). Sad. They dug their own grave.

I wasn't clear on my statement. sorry! I was trying to make a comment that, the waiting is nothing compared to the lack of and poor quility of care. Yes the waiting totally suxs and the health care is even worse than that! How could someone in good conscience allow someone to wait when it was clear that the person was having a strock. There are alot of good nurses and doctors. It's just to bad that that politics plays a factor!

Okay, it's Obamacare. What was the excuse before that when Health Alliance has been shutting everything down at Burbank over the last ten years? They were getting ready for Obama?

They absolutely dug their own grave!!! Because they only have a psychiatrist on call, who never responds other than over the phone, everyone who goes there has to be voluntary. The majority of the patients waiting DAYS in the ED are not voluntary they are on a section 12, meaning involuntary and there needs to be a doctor at the hospital to accept/sign them in, and that DOES NOT HAPPEN AT BURBANK. Their staff, soon to be out of their cushy jobs, refuses to take 98% of the patients from the ED in Leominster, and as hard (or not so hard) as admistration has tried to get involved they can not make them accept patients even though we are in the same Umass Memorial system. I personally hope theY enjoy waiting in the unemployment line with the same people that would have kept them employed if they had done thier job well.

Doctors and Hospitals are a rip off. My wife wasn't feeling well and it's a good thing I have good insurance. After blood work, x-rays, cat scans, dog scans, MRI's and an appointment to a specialist in Worcester they came to the conclusion she's going through menapaus. Well no kidding, I could have told you that when she was trying to cook Eggos with a hair dryer and accused me for the price of ham at the grocery store.

i went to talk to mayor wong one day about how her family raped me to make her and the bitch called a pig who sent me to a psych ward as an ACUTE case even though the pig and i had no contact in years.
These 2 public pukes used their positions to charge the state 10k in hopes their raping could go undetected.
Maybe if rent a holes like the mayor didnt use public money to prevent pedophiles from facing justice we wouldnt have these problems

If you have to wait 4-6 hours then you are not in a life or death situation that needs attending to within seconds. That is what the ER is for.
