One main point being overlooked is in-come levels. People are living on the edge of desperate. No work,no money, cost of gas & groceries out of sight with no end in sight. Everything is up almost 50% from this time last year, and the next year will be what? We need some hope for the future, I think our President is right, there is no recession, its a depression we are going into.

Violent crime is moving out of Indy and into Hamilton, Johnson and Hendricks counties. Within the past 18 months, Greenwood police have killed two criminals. But while the crime is rising in these areas, the city's primary newspaper and tv stations are reluctant to give the public a daily dose of crime reports. Why? If it is not fatal, we never hear or read about it. But the smaller crimes impact most of us. Way to Go, Karen, and WISH.

Perhaps the Carmel police should spend more time actually in Carmel instead of being highway jockeys on the short stretch of I-465 that is in Hamilton County. I travel that stretch of road every day and see them out there quite often. That stretch of road isn't even in Carmel.

Perhaps TroyM should slow down a little so that he doesn't have to worry about the Carmel Police highway jockeys. Perhaps he should also study the Carmel city limits. He would then learn that this particular stretch of I-465 is in Carmel.

Typical response. For the record, I have never been pulled over by the Carmel Police on that stretch of road.

Last time I checked, Carmel was trying to annex the area of Clay township that borders I465 to the west of Meridian street and they are also trying to annex homeplace, which borders I465 on the east side of Meridian street.

Perhaps you should study the Carmel City limits.

If I was a resident of Carmel, I would prefer the cops stay in town and protect the citizens that pay the taxes that supply their salary, instead of being highway jockeys.

What seems to be the problem, hire some more police officers for crying out loud, its not like we have no money for them...right.Look i live in fishers and i like living here, but if we are below the national average something is very wrong. We should be well above average if you ask me,take a look around our town were once in the top 50 places to live...now can anybody tell me where we rank today?maybe we have a bunch of idiots running the town of fishers or maybe they just can't handle the growth, maybe i'll buy a couple of pitbulls and chain them to the tree like in the getto...That would look nice now wouldn't it!!!!

Part of the problem is that some police departments are top heavy. Back when police officers, and the administrators, didn't make jack, and the crime rate was lower, it didn't really matter that there were a lot of supervisors "riding a desk." Now that law enforcement has changed and you have to actually pay people a decent wage, the administrations at some departments are just sucking the money up in wages.

All a police department needs is a Chief and a slew of sergeants and corporals. The idea we need shift sergeants, corporals, lieutenants, majors, deputy chiefs, assistant chiefs, and majors is a joke. That is old school law enforcement thinking where you created these positions so that your buddy with 10 years out on the street can get a nice M-F desk job. As things change, police departments are going to have to cut administrative positions. I have seen highly paid administrators doing the same thing a street officer could do. Time to take the rank and pay raise out of those jobs. Offer those jobs to the street officers based on seniority.

Your Mom says, it's a community effort. A police force isn't the alpha and omega of crime prevention and criminal apprehension, it's just the law's arm of dealing with it. If you have a problem with crime, turn off your computer and go outside and form a neighborhood watch with your neighbors, be proactive, and quit whining about high crime rates.

Perhaps most of you are tired of hearing me say this week after week...but I am going to say it again anyway.

Fishers and Carmel are about 5 years short of being Speedway and Lawrence as far as crime and the neighborhoods and schools go. The cops wouldn't qualify for security gaurd jobs and the residents are so clueless they aren't crying out for any changes in policy. Crime is exploding in Hamilton County. There have been several murders over the last year for the first time in many years and property, robbery, and drug trafficing crimes are out of control. Funny thing is...nothing will be done. Property values will continue to decline due to forclosures and crime rates. Which will continue to lower property tax income to the county...and therefore allow for less law enforcement...which will cause property values to decline even more...which will...well, you get the picture. They need to fire the JOKES of kool-aide cops they have in those communities and hire some cops that have a clue. Of course, that would require a mayor / city manager with a clue, and city councils with a brain cell...not anything those cities have right now.

And for God's sakes...fire that idiot Fishers Police Chief George Kehl. That moron couldn't catch a cold. He's been clueless in Fishers PD for 30 years. crime is going nuts and he isn't doing a damn thing about it. He doesn't know how and WOULDN'T even if he could.

Being vigilant is a great idea. But there IS responsibility by the PD for keeping crime under wraps. The cops need to get their donut sucking asses out on the beat and do some real police work (not that Carmel cops have a clue what that is). The prosecutor needs to prosecute criminals and the judges need to sentence them to REAL prison time.

do not be a victim - criminals come in all shapes and sizes
Police arrive after the the damage or death
remember the 2nd Amendment
Use your right to vote to hire the personal necessary
ie fire the city consul for lack of job performance
they are "hired"

Do me a favor and look at the amount of dispatched runs for Fisher's and Carmel at Indystar.com . They may have 14 to 20 runs in a 24 hour period. Where The city of Indinapolis averages 3500 dispatched runs. The rest of the time Carmel P.D. follow people from work to their homes, in hopes of making a traffic stop. Before, you tell a story please tell the whole story and not just tid bits.

Police can only go so far as to arrest. It is up to the prosecutor office to file the charges and we all know who is the supporter of "make an offer" type of prosection and that is what hamilton co has.
Get a real count of calls for service. it is public record. see how much time is wasted because a citizen calls 911 because their neighbor's dog crapped in their yard. That is the waste of man power! False Alarm calls, what a waste as well! Ohh how about my neighbor has his music turned up too loud, and instead of being an adult and knocking on a door; we call 911 to have someone else ask them to turn it down.
Hmm if you do not understand traffic stops are how criminals get arrested, rarely is someone caught in the act!

Crime is up in those areas because your ghetto thug cousins are moving out there to big houses they can not afford.

Your writing sucks.

Wow, you represent the ignorant white person so well. I guess you are so educated you know the way to turn someone around to your way of thinking is to insult them and call them names, right? I have read a lot of your posts, and to me you come off as an uneducated racist.

Way to go, you must be proud of yourself.
