Who released the vidio to the public and why? What about all of the police cameras
does this mean we see all pictures taken? |
Will the paper have a story about who released the tapes and why?
Supposedly, on another post about Syverson some time ago, Syverson complained to the Fishers Police Department in several phone calls to them about telling his wife - so the tapes were released. |
Yeah.... why isn't that an issue to anyone? Whomever it is, they are really out to get him |

The Star posted this story, the same story, twice in two days. The coverage by the Star has been excessive throughout this ordeal. The principal broke the law and should lose his job. But the Star has given more coverage to this DUI than those of other public officials such as the recent police dui's. Let the school and community move on.

The tapes were NOT a part of the Indpls Star. The TV news media showed them over & over. However, under the circumstances I find Scott Syverson a person who will do anything to clear himself. Calling the officer's superior was unforgivable. His apology given through his attorney was not the sincere apology that he should have given himself. Fortunately he was stopped before he actually had an accident and injured or killed someone. Does he have a drinking problem? I only hope he will be man enough to resign before he is fired! A resignation will look much better than being fired on a resume. The survey by the students is not too surprising. There are always those 'fer and 'agin public school employees whose actions are questionable to say the least.

I wondered the same thing: Who released the tapes? But, at the end of the day, the guy, who is held to a higher standard because of his influence on young people, made a HUGE judgment error. His misfortune was 100 percent PREVENTABLE (I mean, if you're going to get drunk, how difficult is it to call a cab?), and rightfully so his credibility and ability to perform his job are irreparably damaged. If you had a kid at his school, wouldn't you want to know? Maybe someone did have it out for the guy, maybe not, but I think everyone had a right to know what happened. |

Syverson should lose his job, and probably will. Drunk driving is potentially deadly. If Syverson would have injured or killed someone this would have taken a drastic different direction.
As far as the tapes being released........ Who in the world would have known that Syverson was pulled over? The media? No. They would have not known it was him, even if they were monitoring scanner/radio traffic, as names aren't given. I have heard two stories. The first one (that the media wants us to believe) is that someone who knew who Syverson was tipped off the media. Not likely. The second story is that someone at the Fishers PD had a problem with the arresting (or NON-arresting) officer in this case and leaked it to the media. There's a great way to have a brother's back. Are they on the same team? The only good thing that came out of this is that Syverson will have to pay for his grievous error in judgement. |

I beleive anyone who is found driving while twice over the legal limit should be arrested and prosecuted. If this person has a larger role in the community and enforces a zero policy but does not adhere to it, should lose this role.

Oh Oprah, wherefore art thou Oprah?

This situation actually speaks more about the Police than it does the administrator. Good thing we know how it works. He was not hauled in but he was charged and will be paying the price. |
Dude, names are given on the radio. And I'd go with story number one. |
As should all teachers and other administrators who have been convicted of the same offense. Will that be happening? |
Oh please. We aren't talking about his contributions,we are talking about a law breaker, life endangerer. I think he likely was practicing drunk driving long before he got caught. We will judge him for ONE event and how you judge him is on your community. You are very immature to confuse law broken and all other contributions. Maybe he can ride the bus to school? |
If it didn't sell they wouldn't be covering it. I agree go with the story...again and again until such time that resolution is here. This guy has drunk driven many more times that this one time. |

Shoot the messenger is not a good argument but oh well. |

"The focus of our coverage was the principal. I am confident that our readers are aware that the quality of an entire school and its students is not impacted by the unfortunate actions of any one person."
When I was in school and there was anything going on, the students were advised that we were "representing our school and we should not do anything to disgrace our school." So how about the example of a student at an event who is unruly and being reprimanded. Do you think that student will be told that it is OK, after all, the school wasn't really impacted by their actions (they're only ONE person)? Highly doubtful. You kids really want to push a double-standard like that? |

1 I am looking again at the issue that you are referring to, as somehow despite the fact that the papers were not put out until closer to 7th period, my child that is currently there was able to get a copy the following day of the In the Red Tiger Topics. Syverson did not invent the wheel. One of my children was there the first year before Fishers High School existed, as was then, the Freshman Campus – Class of 2007. Many of the things listed were programs that Debra Jacobs, Principal 2003-2004, had already undertaken. She was a key part in the organization of programs/staff before students even set foot in the door for the first time during August of 2003. Her key phrase was “Failure is not an Option.” She initiated that if a student is struggling, they will be given a study hall so they can be helped. True the IB Program was still in the works. I could go on with other repeat items; but I think you get my point. Check with anyone that you know that graduated last year - 2007 - to ask them about their Freshman Campus experience; and if most of what are the kudos, are in fact, duplications. |
